My mom has a friend that has serious medical conditions.She recently got a check up and they told her she needs to go through surgery.
She's a U.S citizen! 30 yrs. old and they have refused to give her insurance because she owns a home!!
What can we do?

Because, insurance companies are for-profit companies and they will probably lose money if they provide her with coverage. This is precisely why we need national health care coverage similar to what the country of France grants their citizens.
Because she is a home owner they expect her to sacrifice her home, savings and any assets she has before she can accept Medicaid or a state sponsored program for those with no house or assets.
It is an unfortunate situation in the US that we must make ourselves broke before accepting government health care assistance.
On the other hand, if you are receiving government health care assistance you can lose property you inherit because the government will take it to pay for your care.
I have a friend who lost his Moms house when she passed away because she was receiving kidney dialysis treatment paid for by the state she lived in. The state took the home to pay for her treatment when she died. Welcome to America, land of the free and greedy who will stop at nothing to help themselves to your money.

I have been refused health insurance many times because I have a pre-existing medical condition. I had to sign up for a plan that is through the state that basically says if you have any of the conditions listed they have to give you insurance. You pay up the butt for it and can't use it for the first 6 months for the specific condition but after that it worked great. Then once my 5 year window was up (I hadn't been treated for 5 years for my condition) I got Blue Cross. If she doesn't have much money she can always work out arrangements with the hospitals billing department. They offer plans and services to those whose incomes qualify for funding. You basically tell them what you make and they decide if you qualify for assistance. My sister did this twice and they make decent money. Most hospitals have these plans (in my state it's called Safety Net) where the hospital gets money from the government to aid people who can't pay. However they don't just post signs saying it because any money that is left over at the end of the year they get to keep for whatever they want. So she needs to ask the hospital and the doctors if there is anything she can do. |

This is awful and wrong. I don't know what you can do. Both politicians say they want to help Health Care, but neither I feel will even try. This has been going on for years.
This is why I say "Health Insurance" is more important than education. |
