Refused medical treatment?
In spite of having expensive health insurance, I owe my dr's office hundreds of dollars due to recent tests for MS. I've not been able to pay the $172/mo payments to my dr's office, and received a notice from them yesterday that I can't see my dr until I pay the $172. Can they really deny me medical treatment?

I have paid thousands of dollars to the clinic and hospital over the past 20 some years, as has my insurance co. Of course I will be paying them what I can in the future, but I can't afford what they are asking now. What rude people there are in here. I'm so happy that they have sufficient income to meet all of their needs.

It may depend on the Laws of your state. I would appeal & call my insurance company & tell them how this dr. will not work with you.

& in the meanwhile get another dr. The insuance rep. it trained to "weed" out the dr's for you, or ask for a rep who can. They are to do their job.

A dr. who will not except medical payments tht you can afford, is just not right. You could file bankruptcy on him if you would, but i know you wouldn t do it. In my state, & i dont know if that applies across the board , they cannot harrass you for money if you are honestly try ing to pay them, even 10.00 a month.

Check with your insurance about your state laws & dont stop taking care of yourself, i'm going to pray bout this. this erks me.!

I’m neither a lawyer nor a doctor, but I think only the ER is prohibited from refusing you care.

Did you call and notify them you could not make the monthly payment??? That could be the problem.

It's not life threatening, it's business. Call them up and cut a deal.

Yes. They're not required to provide you with free services.

How long would YOU work at your job, if you weren't being paid, and had no idea if you EVER would be paid?

yes. there is a law that emergency rooms have to treat you and they can't ask first whether you can pay or not. it is a business at a clinic. it's not like they're outright refusing you - they are refusing because you owe them. call the business office - they are usually open to making a deal.

Yes, your doctor's office is entitled to drop you as a patient. Generally they should give you notice that they are dropping you, so that you can locate another physician.

Since they gave you notice, it sounds like they have fulfilled their obligations to you. I know that may not seem fair, but unfortunately doctor's offices have utilities to pay, staff salaries to pay, etc. If they are providing expensive treatments to you and not getting paid for them, unfortunately they can't keep doing that indefinitely.

I have seen worst than that.
