A friend of mine has been offered a job but has been told to get his own 'insurance'. I am presuming that this means some sort of personal liability insurance.
Does "personal liability" cover what you do to others and "personal insurance" cover what you do to yourself - or are they one and the same?
Where would I get some information on these products? My mate needs to get back to work as quickly as possible.
What does he do? These guys should be able to help regardless: http://www.coversure.co.uk/branch/southampton

'Public Liability' covers damage to 3rd party property and injury to members of the public.
You can also take a form of personal insurance out which is accident/personal Injury policy which will cover a self-employed person if they injure themselves or suffer from a serious illness.
However I feel in this instance 'Public Liability' is what is being asked for.

I am sure what the company means is "personal insurance". The company has no budget for the employee benefit. It is easy where to find it, just browse and find the suitable one for your mate. Good luck!

"Personal liability" covers things for which he would need coverage even if he did not have this job.
What he needs to cover what he does on the job is either "professional liability" insurance or "errors and omissions" insurance, depending on the type of job.
Also, he needs health insurance.

I was Self Employed for 40 years but Taxi Drivers are self employed, in the main and they have Insurance for the car and third party for their own good in case anybody makes any other claim than accident in the taxi.
In my case, I had Public Liability Insurance and without advertising, go to any large Insurance Company for the advice your friend needs.
