STEVEN H | Selling annuities and life and health Want to go (non-captive) need a company? |
I have had my liscense for over a year, and I have worked for a insurance company, but I want to go on my own and become non-captive. This will allow me to gain more capital and be my own boss. But I need to know where to start to find a company that will allow me to be non-captive. Where should I look? I looked all over the internet and cant seem to find one website. |

I'm not sure what sort of website you are looking for. There is no shortage of companies to sell insurance for. Most reputable companies, however, require you to have demonstrated an ability to sell similar products in the past before they will license you. One option would be to find a general agent that represents many different companies and be a sub-agent for him or her. That way you have someone that has a built-in base of companies and products to choose from.
Most GA's will take a percentage of the commission from you ranging from 20-40%.
I have used this approach with life insurance for many years to gain access to a broader base of insurance products.
Good luck in your endeavors. |

In the life and health field it is very easy to associate your self with a general agent. In the search engine of your choice type "Wholesale life insurance brokerage". I got 293,000 sites. General agents have numerous products available to you and can license you with a company very easily.
Depending upon the type of annuities you sell you might need to be associated with a registered broker/dealer. That will not be as easy but if you have a good track record in sales and are already a registered representative you should have no problem. I would start with your local yellow pages to find a broker/dealer in your area.
I would strongly recommend attending a local meeting of the National Association of Insurance and Financial Advisors to find professional contacts in your area. |

It sounds like you want to be an independent producer.
You can either go direct to companies like Midland, Legacy, and a few others or you can contract through a wholesaler also known as an FMO (Field Marketing Orginization)
Wholesalers generally do not get any of your commission. They do get paid a commission but it is because of the size of their contract and you would get paid the same if you contract directly with the company or under them. Many Insurance companies require you to be with a Wholesaler in order to contract with them (Allianz, North American, Aviva and some others I think) If you go this route shop around. There are some large ones like Gameplan, InsurMark, Dunhill Marketing, National Brokers Alliance... it's a long list. See what they offer (Leads, illustration software, assistence getting you forms and supplies, online help...)
Best of luck with what ever you decide. |

I can get you hooked up with many companies. Look at my site under 'agents' ... We have a 'producer group' that you can join and you're non-captive. |

Depends on where you live, but I would post your resume on Monster (you will be amazed at the number of replies you will get) and look at the following....
1. Northwestern
2. New York Life
3. Principal
4. Met Life
5. AUL
6. Guardian
and these are in no particular order and I could have listed more, but I have to go. I have an app appt!
Good luck! |
