Served my country, but can't get life insurance?
I have served in the US Army for 17 years, I have deployed 5 times in support of many operations to include twice to Iraq and preparing for a 3rd. I took a physical last year for life insurance when I retire and it was found that I have a high level of protein in my urine. I have been denied time after time because of this preexisting condition. Who can I go through so I can get some affordable life insurance. It is sad how this country takes care of it's veterans. I have done everything that was asked of me as a Soldier, now that my time is almost up, my country turns it's back on me. What a shame.

Thank you for your service to our country.

Have you done anything about trying to find out why you have high protein levels in the urine? That can be a precursor to diabetes, or, LOL, a pregnancy issue. You will continue to be denied until this "mystery illness" has been identified, and treated. So you need to work on it from that end.

Also, you CAN get "guaranteed issue" coverage through companies like Mutual of Omaha. Each policy is limited to $10,000, but you can usually get two or three, for a maximum coverage amount of around $25,000. Not much if you've got kids to worry about, but better than nothing. It's the most expensive way to buy insurance, though.

Once you get the protein issue cleared up, you probably could get coverage through a high risk life insurance agent. Even they, though, won't be able to help you until the issue is at least identified.

Good luck.

No one can control regular life insurance companies and their underwriting requirements, but did you get VGLI when you retired? That is sure acceptance if you enroll within 120 days of separation.

First of all, thanks sincerely for serving America. However, your veteran status has nothing to do with being entitled to life insurance. Your country has not let you down. You have a health condition and you need to address it. Plain and simple. I mean McDonalds stops serving breakfast at 10:30. Should they make an exception for you just because you served in the military? Come on dude! Focus on the ISSUE and not on blaming someone else. You need to get a comprehensive para-med exam. You need to find out WHY you have excess protein in your urine. There are many companies who will insure you WITHOUT a medical exam. And you can get $100,000, even $250,000 with no medical exam. You need to contact an independent insurance agent (get out the yellow pages) and they can help you.

Check with insurance companies that have "Guaranteed Acceptance". You may be able to get a very low policy for maybe $5,000- $10,000.

If you are between 50-85 years old, try Colonial Penn.

Nobody wants a endangerment on their plan, you see they might call for you again, and that puts the company at risk of having to pay for you.

Or you might have a disorder that might appear at an early time, or dis function because of your time as a soldier.

Selfish companies, only want money.

?!?!?!?

That's disgusting. You should contact your state's Dept. of Veteran's Services and raise h0ly h3ll immediately. I love that they don't tell you anything when you get out on how to re-acclimate after you're gone for so damn long.
