Well, see, the problem is, at what point do you want to "bother" to get health insurance? Once something goes wrong, it's too late. So, what's your plan? When you turn 30? When you turn 40? or after something goes wrong, when you become uninsurable?
That's like trying to place a bet after the race is run. So, then you need $100,000 of surgery for something, and complain that no insurance company will take you. Yes, that's right - they won't. Or they won't cover what's wrong.
If you're going uninsured, just be aware that uninsured medical costs are the #1 reason for bankruptcy filings in the US. And $2500 is NOTHING. That MIGHT cover a simple broken bone, if you don't need surgery. |

I would if I was you. Just because your healthy today, doesnt mean you'll be completely healthy 1 month from now. Many people end up in emergencies that were completely unexpected (car wreck, flu, dog bite, anything unexpected etc) and have to pay out of pocket tens of thousands of dollars, because they didnt have health insurance. |

As an example, in Arizona, a Blue Cross Blue Shield $2600/100% deductible HSA plan would be $95 a month, $76 for a $5000/100%. This is inexpensive, and most likely will be less in the state that you reside.
It would be wise to purchase a high deductible plan. These plans usually cover annual physicals without the need to meet the deductible first. |

Yes, 2500 isnt squat. Wont cover 1 emergency room visit. Even if u go with the high deductible and minumum coverage, keep insurance. Single coverage is very inexpensive and can help lots. Im 21 and in very good health but I still carry insurance with my employer. |

In my opinion insurance companies are a huge rip off. They'll pay for the small things. But when it comes to the big things like cancer, they've got ways to get out of paying if they want to. And they do. In my opinion look into dumping your money into a medical savings account instead of giving it to the insurance companies.
If something major happens like cancer, look into getting your health care outside of the U.S. Often the care is free, cheaper, and most of the time better. They don't care about preexisting. In fact they want to know your preexisting so you get better, not to limit benefits. Countries to look into France, Cuba, Canada, UK, or any of the Scandinavian Countries. The health care systems in these countries are not perfect but are far more functional then the states.
On a side note; there are thousands of people going bankrupt from medical bills all the time and they DO have insurance. Insurance is an illusion of security that agents like mbrcatz1 want to sell you on. |
