Southern Lady | Should I contact my insurance company or pay for the damage myself? |
My boyfriend lent his car to his exwife to take their children to school. Well, she hit someone in the back. She did not call the police!!! I don't know why. This happened today. Should he call his auto insurance company at this point or should he pay for the damage himself? The ex said the other guy was under the influence....what should he do? |

First of all there are different rules for different provinces/states.
That is a terrible situation. She is an idiot for not contacting the police. First of all you need an accident number when reporting a claim, so you have to call the police. What I can suggest to you, is to contact your insurance company, let them know what happened. If the other driver contacted the police, your insurance company will find out about this, so dont wait.
The lending of the car is not an issue, unless she is excluded on the policy. The decision is up to you if you want to pay for the damage, your agent/broker will explain the positives and negitives with you of both.
If it is small damage, I suggest paying yourself.
large damage but the car is worthless, just write the car off collect the insurance value and buy a new car.
Contact your insurnace company, dont hide this from them, they will find out!! and..if you dont, they could possibly file this as a red flag, so the next time you apply for insurance, this incident will appear. |

Report the accident and the fact she was driving. Her insurance if she has any could be held responsible. If the other guy files no claim you just have to fix your car. But in any case you need to cover you butt in case the guy sobers up and sues the car owner. You will also need to be able to prove who was driving the car.
If the damage on your car is minimal, it will be better for you to judst fix it and not tell the insurance. Regardless if they pay or not they keep a record of the accident and can jack your rates up. |

He should turn it over to the insurance company. Let them handle it. NO WAY should he handle this himself, or he could end up paying for six months of lost wages and pain and suffering, as well. |

Call the auto insurance.co and report the accident,i hope his include TPL ( Third Party Liability ) in the policy. |

Well, you cant prove that anyone was under the influence now!
Your best bet is to get an estimate for the damage and, if that amount is less than your deductible and the other party agrees, just pay for the damage and don't file a claim. |
