Should I enroll in a health Ins. Plan this year? It is that time again, and I don't know should I?
Last year we enrolled in Aetna hmo, a dental plan and vision. We pay 600.00 monthly, deducted from my husband's pay check bi-weekly. If we choose to not enroll can we get charity care? 600.00 more per month would be heaven sent. My husband never sees a doctor or dentist. our son is 19. I see 6 or 7 doctors a year. Maybe we should just pick the one with the lowest premium with a high deductible, since we never pay our current deductible.
(we don't have the money to)
Anyone have a clue what we should do?
Additional Details
I have preexisting conditions, our son is not enrolled in school put plans to.
We own practically nothing( two ten year old saturns), we owe no credit cards,no house to lose. been bankrupt already so no credit report to worry about. just can't make utility bills, or buy food with the high premium. My husbands employer only offers Aetna.

Maybe this could help your situation. www.healthsavings.ourperfectcard.com I signed up online over 5 years ago now and they have saved me thousands of dollars. From Dental, Vision, Rx, Medical..etc. They even had my very affordable plan plan active in 2 hours and was able to use it the very same day. All pre-existing conditions are accepted.

This is part of the reason why we have a health care crisis: people who have access to health insurance but because they think they are "healthy" don't take advantage of it to save a few bucks. Then when an unexpected health care issue comes up, they expect the government to pick up the tab. Don't gamble with your family's health. Get health insurance, it's a necessity, not a luxury and take advantage of it. Tell your husband to use it and see his doctor at least once a year in order to pick up and treat problems before they get bigger.

The question to ask yourself is, what if? If something major happened, how would you pay for this? Major Medical is what I am talking about. Having a higher deductible is great but you need to keep this in mind. Another option is to get a higher ded/HSA policy and back this up with a Critical Illness policy which is inexpensive and would cover on first diagnosis of illness's such as Heart Attack, Stroke, Cancer, etc...up to 21 conditions, up to $500k lump sum. You can just get a $10k benefit which would help to cover those expenses.

Hope this makes sense. I would recommend talking to DenverWest Insurance Professionals to get more information on the Critical Illness

When I was discussing about the medical insurance plan with my agent,I clearly told him that give me the best option irrespective of the cost of the premium,he was quite surprised,he looked up to my eyes when I told him eye ball to eye ball that I am not there to get a benefit out of it but to meet with the emergency expenditures.I hope that the almighty will be with me so that I am not left to your company's mercy to look after me when my family is is in a distressful condition. What is your opinion about my philosophy!

If you have any kind of preexisting conditions, they will not be covered under any health care you get for yourself. If your son in not in school he is not covered by your insurance. You would be taking a huge risk to drop your coverage, one accident or semi-serious ailment could put you into bankruptcy. Even so called Charity Hospitals are going to bill you if you have any means to pay, so don't think that would be free. I would suggest you keep your insurance. Good Luck.

You'll have to ask your local "charity care" provider. Likely, there ISN'T one. Which means, you'll be paying all those bills out of pocket.

Once you let that policy lapse, your prexisting conditions will go uncovered an ADDITIONAL 18 months after you pick up coverage again. You'd likely be looking at a second bankruptcy.

I think the real plan needs to be, a second job for him, a first job for you, or something else. Your financial problems will only get worse, without insurance. $600 a month extra, would likely only be $400 a month after taxes are applied to it, Isn't going ot go as far as, for example, you're 19 year old delivering pizzas on weekends ($1,000 a month).
