I have to rent a car for 2 weeks for business. Supposely, the cost should be reimbursed to me by a company after the assingment is done. Not sure if I can truly trust that.
But anyway, if I don't get the insurance, it will be $500. But if I get insurance, it is $1200.
I am a safe driver and I will be in a rural place. I am trying to convince myself that I don't need it. But then again, I worry about what might happen if accidents occur.
The cost of rental car will be reimbursed by a company. But I am not sure if they are actully going to do that in timely manner and my credit card balance is high. I don't want to put extra money charged into my account.
My credit card company and auto insurance company (on my own car) told me that they do not have insurance coverage on rental cars.
What do you think?

Better to be safe than sorry my friend.
Ask your company to send you an e-mail that you will be reimbursed. Secondly, if your credit cards do not cover insurance on rental cars, you need to find one that does. I use the American Express Blue card. They cover it all and then some.
But as far as wondering if you should or shouldn't get the insurance, get it ! Sure, it may be $1200, but how much will it cost God forbid the car gets stolen or wrecked ? I know that you stated that you're a safe driver, and I'm sure that you are. It's the other fools on the road we need to worry about.

You managed to find one of the only credit cards in the world with no coverage. You need to either find another card, or buy the optional insurance so you can BEAT THE HELL OUT OF THAT CAR. I recommend sliding around a lot of corners with the help of the e-brake, and downshifting at inappropriately high speed to start. Also, if you need to haul anything stinky or that might stain the upholstery, now is the time. |

I've always had coverage through my personal auto policy, subject to my regular deductible. If yours does not offer it, then you will need to get the rental insurance. I would clear the cost up-front, in writing, with the company you are doing the assignment for. That way there is no surprise when the bill comes. |

Your getting ripped, $50/day for insurance, are you renting a Porsche? Typical cost in ca are $10-15 per day. Long term you need to re think you insurance company, most companys cover rental cars. Also most credit cards will cover rental cars. |

It depends on your state. In New York state, a rental car is covered automatically on your regular car insurance. Check your regular policy to be sure or contact your state insurance board to confirm. |

That is a very tough decision. If you were sure you are going to be reimbursed the entire amount, I would get the insurance even though reimbursement is going to take a while.
I'm wondering why the insurance cost is so high! Is that normal? Anyone know?
Lastly, when you called your auto insurance company did you ask a general question? "Do you sell auto rental insurance?" Or did you ask if it was included on your policy. I have full coverage on my car and any car I would rent would automatically be covered. They do not sell auto rental insurance separately. |

I'm floored that your personal auto insurance doesn't cover a rental car. Truthfully, I've never heard of such a thing. Call your agent back and ask him/her what happens if you're driving a friend's car? You should be insured on any vehicle you drive as long as you have insurance, including a rental car.
If your insurance company doesn't cover you, dump them and find one who does. Try Progressive.com and shop around. |

If you use a visa or MasterCard for it, check with your card company. Most "credit cards" not debit, will have rental car insurance coverage as one of the benefits of the card. If not, check with your insurance company how much rental insurance will cost, it's probably alot cheaper than the car companies. My rental insurance costs me about 15.00 a month, car companies charge between 10-20.00 per day. |
