I am considering cosigning for a car for a friend. I trust her completely but if the grim reaper comes a knockin' I don't want to get stuck with the debt. Of course I'd be the most upset over losing my friend, but I don't need to become even worse off by being stuck with a 10k debt. What might such a policy cost? |

You're nuts, to cosign for anyone you aren't married to, or gave birth to.
That policy pricing is going to depend on her age and health, but should run at minimum premium - maybe $25 a month.. |

You are going to be hard pressed to find a reasonably priced product for $10,000. Most companies don't write regular priced term policies that small. You'll probably have to get a real expensive whole life product.
I'd say if you can't afford to take over the payments then don't cosign the loan. |

You have far less to worry about with the grim reaper than you getting stuck with the debt fro other reasons, no matter how much you trust her.
If you co-sign, be prepared to pay every penny and NOT have the car in the end. In addition, your friend will think you are the worst person in the world.
Ever watch Judge Judy or any of those? 90% of the cases are, "we were best friends and I NEVER thought they would screw me over."
Guaranteed the best way in the world to ruin a friendship is to loan money to a friend.
Post back in a year and if I'm not correct, I'll gladly say I was wrong. |
