My wife and I just seperated and are getting a divorce, I am moving back to Texas. we had car insurance in my name and I stopped the insurance that covered her car, I just kept it under my car in my name. The question that she asked me is "why didn't I tell her that she wasn't covered prior to stopping it, that if something happened to her car that she wouldn't have been covered" my reply was that she is an adult and she should have started the insurance in her name anyway. |

If you were going to cancel the policy - you should have called her and told her that you were going to cancel the policy effective X date so that she would be on notice to get a policy in her name.
Stop being a cad.
And depending on the laws in your state and how that car is titled -- you could have been responsible had an accident happened. The injured party could have sue you and your wife.
The good news is -your wife did not have any accidents in the car so your own immaturity won't come back to bite you in the @ss. |

Well, that's kinda dumb that you stopped the insurance. Until the divorce is final, YOU can be held responsible for any damages that she does in her car, because you're still MARRIED.
And if your name is on the car, as owner or co owner, even AFTER the divorce, you're on the hook for any damages done to someone else.
So if *I* were you, I'd add her . . .and the car . . .back on PDQ. |
