Should I put my husband on my dental/health insurance if he already has his own insurance? Does it matter if?
we are on each others insurance? He says it doesn't cost him anything for his so why should he cancel it. I just don't want some big discrepancy between the insurance companies when there is a claim to be paid.

Dual insurance is a great option to have. It doesn't take much to use up your entire years maximum. I have dual insurance and used up my maximum on both plans this year and still ended up having to pay nearly $2000 out of pocket. (3 root canals and 2 fillings) I still haven't been billed for the crowns yet which will be another $3000 out of pocket. So I recommend stay on the safe side for the minimal expense and get the dual coverage.

Edit: You only need one health plan for coverage, but I'd stick with the dual dental. Its cheap.

Your insurance is your primary insurance, his insurance is your secondary insurance. When you file a claim for yourself, make sure you file to your carrier first, then to his. Each carrier should know that you have other coverage so that they can do a Coordination of Benefits. As for adding your hubby to your plan, if it doesn't cost you anything then add him, if you have to contribute for his coverage then don't. He doesn't really need the extra coverage. It's a waste.

Why would their be a discrepancy... if he adds you as a dependent on the medical benefits (HR can give him the form) there shouldnt be a problem.

Theres no reason for the both of you to have insurance... save money and go with whoevers' plan is cheapest and since his is free that one wins

My company pays 100% medical so we as individuals are only responsible for our co payments and prescriptions which is great!!!

I would stick with one of you providing the insurance.Pocket the extra money that doesn't get deducted from your check for insurance.

Hmm..I suggest you ask an expert about this so as to know it for sure. Here's a source: http://www.myhealth-forum.com/

If your husband's health insurance is not costing him anything then as long as the policy is from a reputable company then he should stay with the company he is at.

There is no need to switch him onto yours as long as he is satisfied with the policy.

You are right to consider the switching option though as one can usually save some money by putting multiple family members on the same policy. Just be sure to shop around and compare different plans at least once a year in order to get and keep the best rate. Here is some more information on family health insurance:

It's good idea have dual insurance because let's say you have got surgery -you know it's cost pretty penny ,but when you have dual insurance it's mean one cover 80% and another 20%.But when you dealling with dual insurance they always pick up first the person who was born first ,like for example if you was born January and your husband in April so they going pick up first your insurance.

I would check with HR. Our HSA, high deductible plan does not allow for sharing of multiple health insurance policies between family. It's one or the other...Oh well!
