Should i get insurance though work for my husband?
I just got a new job. They told me it would be 500 dollars to add my husband on. Do you think it would be better to just get some private insurance for my husband? Contrary to the above answer group policies are not necessarily less expensive than individual policies. Visit a local agent that works with all the major companies in your area. The agent can compare the plan from work with individual plans to see which is best. Depending on your husband's health and age you may find the group policy less expensive for the coverage. However, he may not need that level of coverage.
When you have a baby that is considered a special enrollment period and the baby can be added to your policy. All group policies that I'm aware of have employee, employee + spouse, employee + child, and employee + family catagories. You have 30 days after the birth to notify the insurance company of the new dependent.
