Should my husband put me on his health insurance?
My hubby took me off of his policy last year and I've been without this whole year. Thank the universe nothing too serious happened to me that I couldn't take care of either myself or with the help of my stepmother-the-super-herbalist, I've been rationing my contacts usage and keeping super glue and tape around for my ancient glasses. But open enrollment is this week and he told me that if I really want to go back on his insurance that he will put me on it, but it's going to cost us an extra couple hundred dollars a month. We thought about just putting me on his Dental and Vision as those are things, I know right now, that I need, but I still fear that my accident prone self and my way-out-of-whack blood sugar will kick my patootie and without ins. I'll be in big trouble. Any suggestions? Can he drop me from his insurance if somehow I become eligible for affordable ins. somewhere else?

YES

ok, it's an extra couple of hundred dollars a month, but if you need to go to the ER for anything, it's going to be a couple extra thousand dollars for a while. that's just for the visit, imagine if you need an x-ray, an mri, a ct, blood work, or operation. you could be paying for years.

If I were you i will enroll on my husband insurance it will be worth it. The way you're talking you know your self.accident-prone? come on now you just answer your own question, good luck on your decision.

He can drop you if you become eligible somewhere else. Takes some paper work to prove it, that' all.

Christin K
First, he can drop you later, yes.
And second, do you have any idea what the costs of managing a chronic condition like diabetes could run you if you DIDN'T have health coverage?? WAY....WAAAAAY...more than it will cost for the insurance. Not to mention all the problems that it can lead to. Just the test strips for a glucose meter alone can run you hundreds of dollars a month.

Get on his. And if he's got dental and vision too--get that.

Laylah S
Of course the decision is up to you. I will tell you if you do think you can swing the extra couple hundred per month, it's very worth it to get it. My only concern is the policy may have a pre existing clause, like for instance because you were dropped for a year, it might not cover pre existing illnesses such as diabetes, high blood pressure, hypothyroidism, etc. (things that are an on going illness). Sometimes they wont cover things like this for 6, 8, 12, or even 18 months, I would have your husband check into this with his HR dept. I hope I'm not confusing you, I just know from experience because I processed medical claims for 5 years. Feel free to e-mail me if you have any questions.

What if you end up with Cancer or some other life threatening illness? You have the whole insurance concept backward. It's primary use should be for catastrophic situations and not minor problems. Is it likely something catastrophic will happen? Probably not. But it will completely wipe you out and destroy anything you've been working toward if you don't have it. So the answer is yes he should.

A couple of hundred per month is cheap.

why would he take u off in the first place if you are his wife? that would make me wonder of his actions? is he doing something outside of your knowledge? i hope not. you need to seriously talk with him about why he took u off, it really sounds like you need the health insurance. check with your state as well they have programs for children and adults....not welfare mind you but they can give you the name of the funded organization ..no one is turned down. you may have to pay a fee to belong if you are over the limit but you still get health insurance which you seem to need pretty bad. In PA we call it CHIP *childrens health insurance program but now it treats adults as well. good luck and blessed be i hope you find out and i hope you get better and get insurance.

You won't lose your home due to no dental or vision insurance. I think that should more than adequately answer your question.

I'm assuming the dental and vision are uber cheap. Have him enroll you in those. Get some new fab glasses and a stock of contacts.
Enroll in your own individual health plan. You can find then for under 100 a month. ehealthinsurance.com is a site where you can compare plans and buy them. That way if you get sick, all you'll have to pay is a co-pay and maybe a few extra bucks of whats left over. That way you'll have something in case of an emergency (an appendix or something like that). And you'll be saving a huge chunk of his paycheck. Hope I helped.

since i live in another country, i have no idea how your insurance process works. um, 'hi' btw. ;)

No, he cannot drop you until the next open season. You have to decide if you can afford the insurance.

Not sure what kind of "herbs" you are taking, sounds like you are smoking something to me. First of all not sure, what state you reside but a spouse is not allowed to remove a spouse from his / her insurance unless there is a divorce and it's court ordered. Now !!! as far as your husband, it sounds as if he really don't give a damn about your health. It sounds as if he "worships" that missing $100.00 over you as his wife. And as his wife, you should not be allowing yourself to go without, especially if your have health issues. You must have low self esteem and just want a husband just to say " I got a husband". That's what's wrong with women today, they settle and allow themselves to be cheated out of many things. One thing you need to tell yourself is, "I LOVE ME" and once that's registers within your lame brain (sorry , but it is what it is) then you will not allow him to do the things he does and Im pretty sure if he's abusive towards your health then he abusive towards you mentally and physically. It all goes together. A real man (husband) will not allow his "WIFE" as you say to suffer and from what you are telling us, is that he "Dropped" you from the insurance, so that means you two are legally married or common law, the same thing applies in order to be dropped (a court order has to be issued). What you need to do is go and apply for some type of Government Insurance just to be on the safe side just in case you do have a "sugar" attack. The only downfall to that is that they may not give it to you, if you tell them that you have a "so call husband". One for the road!!! Even though he does not have Health Insurance on you, I guarantee you that he does have "LIFE INSURANCE". That's probably the reason he does not have health insurance, he's waiting to get paid. Get your thinking process in place, please.
