Should you have to explain to grown-ups who buy insurance that there may be a deductible?
If they submit claims all the time, they should know there will most likely be a deductible, right? Dependent upon several factors....
Additional Details
I'm not an insurance agent. I sell cell phones and other little things that go along with it. But I am surprised that some people want the insurance on their pricey phone till they hear about the deductibles.... Then they're like, well so and so threw a phone in the washer and got a free phone covered by insurance. But see, it was a different insurance. *sigh* If I leave out about the details of the insurance, someone could come back mad at me and say I misrepresented it all and cancel the contract though....

This touches on one of my pet peeves. That you can go through 16 years of education and never have an opportunity to learn about the practical things in life that you will be exposed to, such as auto insurance, life insurance, health insurance, mortgages, checking accounts, budgeting, credit cards and the stock market.

So very bright people can graduate from college without ever having the opportunity to learn even the basics of what they will need to know about business. Even though every single one of them will be buying insurance, dealing with banks, investing.

So for me, I am never surprised at people's complete lack of business knowledge. It is just not built in to our educational system.

One would think they are informed, but it's amazing how many folks are dumb as a box of rocks when it comes to insurance and finance. If you doubt that, just take a look at some of the questions posted in these forums.

You - the insurance agent or employee - are the experts in this field. So, yes it is your job to make sure your customers understand your product. Every customer - every time.

This is funny because I explain to my insured's all day long they have to pay their deductibles.

That is why you pay for insurance, to only have to pay your deductible, rather than the whole cost.

Unfortunately, a good many people refuse to take responsibilty for themselves and need their hands held like 2 year olds for everything.

I try to explain to all customers if a deductible applies. Spending the few min to tell them what their deductible is and that it applies saves me a bunch of headaches in the future.

If you're the agent, you have to disclose the deductible both at the time of sale, and every time a claim is filed.

The higher rates paid by frequent claimants compensate you for your time.

Patting backs and holding hands is part of being an agent.
