riddlemethis | So what happens when you find out your pregnant and don't have Maternity coverage? |
Hi,
My husband and I found out we were pregnant in February, the pregnancy was unexpected, even though we did use contraceptives (birth control pills). Unfortunately, my health insurance cut me out b/c I didn't have maternity coverage prior to my pregnancy.
So what do we do? We just moved to california about 1 month ago, and we both don't work yet, so there is no solid income flowing in. We could try to apply for medi-cal, however, prior to moving we both made very good money in real estate in another state.
Will our income from last year and the very beginning of this year affect the outcome of us getting aprooved for medi-cal?
How does that work? Does anyone know of how state medical help works and how they figure out an applicants eligibility?
Please help! |

I would call your local Medical or Medicaid office and set up an appointment. Go for this appointment and explain the situation, You may be able to get Medical and possably WIC or Foodstamps for yourself and your unborn child. Most times they will make your husband go through a work program and try to help him to find work. I don't think they would make you work, but that I'm not sure of in your state.
Make that appt Monday morning, and find out, that is the best thing to do. then you will have the facts and appropriate information.
Good luck with your upcomming child.... |

Hi honey, there are free Clinics who give Medical care for Women in your situation. Planned Parenthood is also a good Clinic who offers help to Women who are pregnant and have no income and needs Medical assistance. |

Well by law since you are pregnant and you have no income the state would have to give you Medicaid, you can look at your local site on line to see if your eligible. Good luck with the baby. |

California is just as interesting as New York for matters of insurance...
I am sure you will find assistance through the state, if not MediCal then something else, Look in your phone book for the Office of Medical Assistance.

Hi there,
Wow, you sure do have a lot going on right now. There are options. Getting insurance in your shoes right now while pregnant may be difficult and costly. They may take you, but not cover your pregnancy since it's an on-going health condition.
Here's a company that I have health benefits with:
http://www.YouDeserveHealthCare.com
It's very affordable and both you and your husband can join for $59, which includes both of you and your baby to come. The only thing is I believe it's difficult for them to work with you if you're beyond 7 months. There's also a hospital advocacy program which is worth it's weight in gold. They do offer a 100% 30-day money back guarantee. It's definitely worth looking into.
Good luck & I hope all works out!

Contact the family service center in your county. They can help you out with the application. In Minnesota, the income guidelines change dramatically for pregnant women, just because they want to make sure you get pre-natal care. We don't qualify for our state health insurance, however, I was able to enroll when I discovered I was expecting both times. They completely cover your prenatal care, delivery, and up to 3 months post natal, and the baby is covered for a year after birth. I would guess most states would have close to the same help for mothers.
Good luck, and congratulations! |
