I'm guessing nobody was hurt, otherwise you would have mentioned it. Please understand that there are plenty of claims out there, understandably those that involve injuries, death, mulitple vehicles come first.
As previously stated, some companies may require more than one estimate. Some companies will let you have just one estimate if it is with one of their approved body shops. Please note that most states make it illegal for a company to force you to go to an approved body shop, however going to an approved one certainly makes the paperwork go by faster.
The claim can be settled in two ways as far as your car repair is concerned. The other driver's insurance company can pay you the full amount of the estimate and you can do whatever you want to do (as in it's up to do if you want to repair your car or not). This way, unfortunately is the longest waiting period as far as getting your money.
If you want your car repaired asap, and you have collision coverage, you can pay your collision deductible (usually $100, $250, $500, or $1000) and the body shop will bill YOUR insurance company the remainer, then YOUR insurance company will bill HER company the full cost. Then YOUR insurance company will reimburse you for your deductible. Kind of confusing, but that's how it works. Make sure you get an okay from either your or her company before making any repairs though.
As far as them taking pictures. They don't always require it, and they certainly won't if you go to an approved shop, but it's a way to fight against fraud. |

An insurance company may write their own estimate. If the price is different they will have you take it to the body shop of your choice and the insurance company and the body shop will agree on a price. Or it might be as simple as you will get a check within the next couple of weeks in the mail. It all depends on the type of claim and the amount of damage. |

most insurance companies will request at least two estimates be provided to them so that they can have you go to the one who quotes the least but you do not have to go to someone of their choice. |

Gee whiz, all companies are different. Ask them. |

the first thing you do is call her company to make a claim. They will record your statement and then they will call her to verify who was at fault. Also if they do not want to pay call your insurance agent and tell him and tell him if you have underinsured motorist for property damage. The company will not act unless they have money in their hands. This is only if their company is giving you the run around. Put your deductible first and have your insurance company go after that company. |

Their adjuster will look at the photos, and as long as she's an insured driver, and there isn't any contestation of fault (if the INSURANCE company doesn't think you're at fault), if they agree with the repair estimate, they'll write you a check. |
