Oh, heck. It gets easier. Part of it is the mindset that you use when you go into a presentation.

Instead of thinking, Oh, I need this sale! I go into a presentation thinking, OK, I'm going to explain to this guy why my product can help him, and let him know why it's better than another product out there. I'm ALSO going to let him know that I'll work for him, and that he can have confidence that there isn't anyone else out there that can do better by him, than me.

Desperation is NOT an attractive quality in an agent - so you can't play the desperate card. One way to help you do this - is to mentally say, ok, there are things that can happen, that will make me walk away from the deal. Then list those things.

I'm not a freshman, so I can say, OK, I'm not going to bother writing an account that won't make me enough $$ to be worth my time. No cr*p policies - I won't write your rental house if you don't give me your personal house. I won't write just your workers comp with tons of losses, if you don't give me your liability & business auto. I won't do your bonds, AT ALL, if I don't have the rest of the account. That kinda stuff.

Just keep going for it. In a short while you will feel
more relaxed. I am 53 and I still have a hard time
talking to a formal group.

There's nothing wrong with casually mentioning to your potential client, "Hi, I'm John, Glad to meet you. I'm new at this job, so bear with me 'cause I'm still a little bit nervous, ya know?"

That is a great ice breaker and then your potential clients will have more grace for you and won't "notice" your mistakes and you'll be more likely to get a sale.

Also, almost everyone on the planet can relate to being "new" and "nervous," but get people laughing -- not by telling jokes, but by being natural and having something genuine to laugh at -- and you'll both be a lot more chilled and you'll do your job ten times better.

Good luck!

look for another job or fool yourself into it.

Anything new is nerve racking. Just remember that the person you're talking to is as human as you are. Slow yourself down so that the person you're talking to can understand what you're saying the first time and not have to ask alot of questions. You're a little insecure with this new venture, as time goes on, you will become an expert and will relax.
