Ambi | Speeding ticket? |
I got a speeding ticket yesterday. I was going 59 in a 35 rushing to my grandfathers because he thought he was having a stroke. I don't want it to raise my insurance, so would getting a lawyer help me to avoid that?
If anyone with any experience could help me with this question it would be appreciated. Thanks. Additional Details I am a young driver, so my insurance will probably go up alot... So i would rather spend the money on a lawyer than having to pay that high insurance |

You could try to go to court, the date is on the back of the ticket. Possibly, the cop will not show up, which means you win. The downside is, that you could get stuck paying more money as a result of the court costs... |

Just send a letter to the relevant authority to see if they fall for your sob story! Other wise pay up, put it down to experience as its going to cost more in legal fees, plus you have to declare this in future transaction with other car insurance. Hey we all done speeding its a risk/gamble you take - until this happens and you think it's not worth it and I could hurt me or someone else! You could not have helped your grandfather no matter what speed you had been going. |

I think it will cost more in the long run to pay a lawyer. Suck it up and pay the ticket. some insurance companies won't raise your insurance if you have a good driving record |

Well, a lawyer is going to cost you, that's for sure, and they aren't likely to get you OFF the ticket. The question is, could they get the charge reduced to less than 15 mph. Your insurance would still go up, but it would be a MINOR moving violation, as opposed to a MAJOR one. So it would go up less.
Likely, not "less" enough to cover the cost of the attorney . . . |

I wouldn't say I have great experience but,
I think it is state dependent. Our state has a provision you can claim for your first ticket where you pay an arm and leg but it doesn't appear on your record. I've also had one of my tickets reduced to a nonmoving violaton by going to court: I claimed guilty but talked to the DA. I really think this is something you need to talk to your friends in your district about. These things vary; some areas are stricter than others. |

If this is your first ticket, chances are you may go to traffic school and avoid this going on your record. Secondly, if you are already insured and got a ticket, the insurance comapny will not know about it unless you try to switch carriers as many people tend to do. They already ran your MVR when you first came to them and only do that randmly every few years or when you make a drastic change in household where another driver is added. |

I don't think a lawyer could do much, other than delay your insurance going up, through all the legal hold up your lawyer will do.
In my experience, it would be cheaper to let your insurance go up, then pay a lawyer to only do damage control to maybe at the most make your insurance not go up as much.
You where totally at fault here speeding even if it was with good intention. Situations like that is just part of life. |
