Stop insurance from sending info about my doc. visits to my parents?
I am on a policy that my father holds. Is there any way i can prevent my insurance company (UHC) from sending info. about when I went to the doctor, how much the claim was, to my parents? I live at a different address, am an adult, and really don't want all this information going to them that is my own personal information.

If your Dad pays the insurance, he will get the billing information including types of exams, tests, procedures. Ask the company what they need to change that (if anything).

As long as you are on your fathers policy he will get all the info. You need to get your own policy then it will be illegal for them to disclose your information with out your consent

No there is not, as long as you are covered under his policy.

If you are an adult, living on your own, how are you covered on your father's policy. You need to get your own coverage and this will not be an issue.

If you father is paying for an individual plan for you, you can call the insurance company and change the address because you would be the owner of the policy.

If you are on his plan as a full time student you can call them and ask them if your explanation of benefits can be mailed directly to you. I would ask them if the HIPAA law allows them to disclose your medical information with your parents now that you are an adult. This sounds like a privacy loop hole HIPAA forgot to address

If your not a full time student and you ever have a big claim the insurance company will verify your student status and if you are not a full time student they won't cover you. They will also send you a bill for anything they did cover while you were supposed to be a student.

Sure, pay for the visit out of pocket, instead of using insurance.

The policyholder (your father) will get an explanation of benefits, showing the doctor charge.

If you're NOT a dependent of your father, you should have your OWN coverage. As long as he's covering you - and both of you are agreeing that you are his dependent (otherwise, you wouldn't be using HIS insurance!), he's entitled to this info.

You have to have your insurance and doctor change your address in their records.

I got my own insurance and live on my own. The insurance has my new address but the doctor didnt. So I had to make sure both were changed.
