Wo | Student job at college-- 20 hrs a week. Am I eligible for health insurance since it is not under 20hr/wk? |
I need health insurance. I am a college student. I may have to take a few semesters off so I can get a job so I can qualify for health insurance benefits. My husband is a business owner and we pay $600 USD a month just for health insurance! The college said they hire students for 20hr/week jobs. I went to the college website and read that those part time employees working less than 20hrs/wk will not qualify for health insurance benefits. So if I am hired at 20hrs a week, will I be eligible for benefits? As a student employee? If I could work there and get benefits, I wouldn't have to quit school. Additional Details ETA: I KNOW it is part time. That's the idea-- otherwise I would have to quit school for a few years.
The question is, if I am a part time employee of 20hrs/wk, and the benefits do not cover those under 20 hours a week, would I still qualify although I am right _at_ 20hrs/wk? Even as a student employee of the college?
Would someone with on-campus student jobs experience help me please? |

Why not just ask someone at the school? They're more likely to know than we are. |

a lot of schools offer health insurance to the students, or at least it is avaliable if nothing else....check with the registrar office. |

If you are in college, you may want to check out health insurance programs that are written through your school. United Healthcare has a plan available at many US schools. These student injury and illness plans provide wide ranging coverage and are designed to be affordable for college students. To check if your school is participating, go to www.UHCSR.com and enter your school name in the search box. You might also be interested in joining the American College Student Association (ACSA), a national organization for college students. They have lots of member benefits, including student health insurance. Their membership fee is affordable. |
