I work for a commercial insurance broker and place my car insurance through Swinton (as we do not deal with personal lines policies).
Throughout my time with the above broker I have been impressed with their service. The claims about local brokers taking less commission is not relevant as the commission is deducted from the premium and not added on top. Therefore, you will not obtain a lower premium by going to a local broker unless they are willing to reduce their commission.
It is worth pointing out that Swintons only receive 10% commission. A little know fact is that all brokers must disclose their renumeration to the customer if asked. This includes profit share deals... something brokers often fail to disclose. |

Dont bother with Swinton, they operate under so many names and are always more expensive than competitors. Try some internet only insurers like swiftcover.com or a wide search with moneysupermarket.com then get a direct quote from the cheapest provider. Plus if you call you can negotiate internet discount if you previously get an internet quote and possible furthur discounts if you play them against other insurers. |

Given that your question is about whether Swinton is any good or not - yes they are. They offer the cheapest quote from a broad panel of insurers, providing the required cover requested by yourself. With regards to documents however, no matter whether Swinton put a comma in the wrong place, it is YOUR responsibility to check the documents once received - and that is verbally advised at the point of sale. |

Had...read the small print. If it's car insurance..you're insured for nothing other than an accident that is 'totally' not your fault. I cancelled when I read the small print regarding alarms, imobilisers, tracking devices etc. They cover every single angle and you have to be able to prove it if you are fortunate. |

I had insurance with them last year - never again! the most horrid experience ever when my car was smashed into and they hardly helped with anything...months later i kept being harassed by them for their stupid mistakes for losing paperwork and it actually was very stressing...my car was written off and i FINALLY received my payment yet i was still gettin harassed by them for little minor things....DO NOT TAKE YOUR INSURANCE WITH THEM...they mite be cheap but thats all...id rather pay a little more to go with another insurance company...even though they are all crap. |

Swinton are the largest high-street insurance broker in the country (and owned by MMA insurance).
The policies they offer will be fine - all through large reputable insurance companies. However if I have any concerns it is the administration charges you could incur. Also Admin is done centrally, not locally.
Try a smaller local broker - their charges are less than Swinton's and as they don't earn so much commission they offer lower prices. (At least we always beat them on a like-for like basis). |
