This is Serious. How much doas a normal mammography cost when you don't have insurance?
Can you people please help.

Tiggers
My insurance was billed $ 698.00, but they have contract to pay a lower fee. I hope this helps. I am not sure if this was just for the mammography or if it also included the radiologist reading the results of the exam or not. If you do not have insurance a lot of states have programs that give free mammograms to women who qualify as a part of screening for breast cancer. Call your doctor or public health department to see if any programs like this exist in the area where you live. Otherwise, if you are paying cash sometimes you can get a discount if you ask or a hardship discount if you can not afford it. You might also be able to set up a payment plan so you can get the care you need. Good Luck.

Here is my suggestion. Please get a health insurance plan before you get your mammogram. Here is why.....
Say you pay cash for your mammogram and they find cancer, you won't be able to get medical coverage for that after you've been diagnosed by a doctor. This could put you in the poorhouse! If you cannot afford insurance, please look into the programs that your state offers, it will be well worth it!
I will pray for you and your health!

Medical procedures vary in cost from area to area and from provider to provider. The best thing you can do is call the radiology clinics and breast care clinics in your area and see what they charge. ALSO BE SURE TO CHECK WITH YOUR COUNTY PUBLIC HEALTH DEPARTMENT. In many (most?) areas they provide a full range of medical services on a sliding scale fee.

PS It isn't just people who don't have any insurance that this is a problem for. Many of us with insurance aren't covered for mammograms unless we've already met a huge deductible.

If you are not in a hurry call a womens clinic. They should have a sliding scale for you, but they also have free clinics. The free clilnics often are mobile, they may be able to tell you where you can meet up with one in a near by town, so you don't have to wait.

Where do you live? This is a free service in Western Europe,UK,Ireland,Australia,New Zealand Most civilised countries provide this service for women free

'tisJustMe
It all depends on where you live. Seriously, there's not even a ballpark figure available otherwise. Best thing you can do is call around and start asking each facility to quote you a rate and then see if they'll negotiate. I'd give a rough guesstimate of $600 as a starting point.

go to the nearest womens health clinic or planned parenthood.there are low-cost,sliding-scale and even free mammograms offered for women with no insurance a and lo-income.good luck.if ur not sure where the clinic is,ur local hospital or social service office can direct u.

You can call your local hospital (or several) and ask them for a cash price for the service.

I'm guessing it should run around $150, but the price will vary by hospital, testing faciltiy, and region, so it could be worth your while to call 5-10 different places.

Call everywhere and ask. Sometimes they have deals on them. Sometimes they have a low cost traveling trailer. October or November is breast cancer month and there are lots of deals then. Also call your hospitals too. I see other good ideas. Don't forget to ask your physician. If you are low income, there should be clinics. Find them and get the particulars you need. You will need a doctor also to receive the results. If you are mobile, I find I do much better in person. In an emergency, most people will be helpful. LOL.
