generally health insurance will not cover pre existing conditions, esp if they are on going. if you think about it insurance is protection against something that may happen, not will happen or has already happened. There may be a company out there that is prepared to cover you but i would guess they would put impose a few conditions and an excess fee. sorry i can't help any more but good luck |

The biggest underwriting problem with depression is the risk of suicide, hence life insurance can be a problem. However you can arrange life cover with a pre existing condition reputable IFAs will submit simultaneous proposals to 3 or 4 companies and see who will provide the lowest loading and / or the least exclusions. I know a company that provides modest cover say £12000 or so to people with terminal conditions. I arranged cover for someone with a terminal tumour in December 2005, he died in Feb 06 and his widow was very relieved to receive a cheque for £7000, only 3 premiums of £20 had been paid, so dont give up. Im pretty sure that there is a charity that helps people with this distressing condition they may be able to advise your reference section at your local library will help. |

Insurance companies are loathe to give cover when someone already has a condition. They will provide cover for anything not caused by the existing condition but they would want you free of depression for some time and certified OK by a doctor before they would consider covering you for this.
Its like car insurance. They dont like young drivers because statistically they are a greater risk and they dont want to pay out. |

unfortunately i don't know of any insurance that will cover pre-existing depression.
i guess you are looking for financial support for phyciatrists and/or councilling.
generally these services can be bought on a pay-as-you-go from suppliers like bupa. but its not cheap.
and you are right to look for private cover, the nhs totally fails people with depression
firmly stating you have depression is a strong place to be and i hope it gives you a good foundation for future improvements.

No - all medical, life or health insurance plans will not include any pre-existing illness where you have sought medical treatment/advice in the last 5 years
this is to stop people who have illnessess but dont want to be treated under nhs from taking out plans solely for that reason.
insurance is to cover costs 'incase' something happens to you, i.e. incase you have a car accident, and not to cover an existing problem.
For instance you cannot take car insurance out after an accident to cover your repair bills!
