Very important ? about being on parents insurance while in school!?
So im attending community college and we go on Quarters here not semesters. Well i turned in my schedule in March during spring quarter as proof i was in school, well im faling one of my classes right now and need to drop in by nov 14th. So im not sure how often Insurance companies check up on you to see if your still in school, or if they call the school? And how often I need to send them proof? Im afraid if I drop a class and they see im not a fulltime student no insurance for me! Anyone know from personal EXP???
Additional Details
Im taking 3 credits which = 15 credits, 12 =full time student, so i drop one class im down to 10 credits!

They can check at any time, and you'd be obligated to provide the proof.

In general, most health insurance companies verify once a year. However, they have the right to request the information each quarter/semester.

This occasionally happens if they have reason to believe that you are not in school full time, or if your parents' employer decides to do a dependent eligibility audit. (Audits are done to "catch" people who are on insurance that shouldn't be, which therefore saves money for the employer and the insurance company.)

I used to do dependent eligibility audits, and many times have terminated students who thought they were safe to drop a class just for one semester.

What are the odds that you'd get caught? Its hard to say...depends on if your parents or their employer are selected for an audit, etc. Is it *possible* that you'd get caught? Yes.

This is really going to depend on what kind of insurance you have. Health insurance isn't going to check at all. Car insurance might check if you get into an accident.

Insurance companies will not check your status to determine if you are full time or not. They may ask for verification of full time status at the annual renewal of your policy.

If you have a claim however, they may ask to verify if you are a full time student and that could determine if they pay your cliam or not.

How does one class make you a full time student anyway? 1 class = part time student

depends on which company you have. I'm on my parents statefarm insurance which only required me to be half time (6 credits) per semester. As of next semester though, they are requiring me to be full time 12 credits to qualify. This past spring semester I only had one class of 3 credits and they never knew. I really don't think they'll kick you off if you drop, just don't tell them. I think it is too late though to drop a class isn't it? Like if you drop now you get an F and if you just don't go to class anymore you still get an F?
