Vision or dental insurance?
should I get vision or dental insurance? I can only choose 1 from my employer because it goes by a points system. i have glasses and contacts for my eyes and i also have a dentist that i go to ever 6 mos but she is not on any of the dental plans they offer. so if i get dental at no cost to me then i go to a new dentist or if i get vision or go to my current dentist and pay full price for her services. or if i get vision i get a pair of glasses and/or contacts for free every year but if i dont get vision i pay for it myself. please help!

I would get dental, glasses/contacts are cheaper to buy out of pocket than dental work.

Vision coverage is usually a joke...go for the dental....it's 5-7 times the benefit easily....ok well possibly..

J
definitely dental. you can eye exams for a fairly cheap price at sears, target, and even cost-co, and you only have to go once a year. you need to see the dentist twice a year for a cleaning and if you have cavities or need anything it gets really expensive. contacts are not too expensive and glasses that are covered are usually only the lens and cheap frames. i wear contacts and glasses but my dental bills add up much faster.

definately dental... I had both vision and dental free with my old employer and i found the dental to be more beneficial.. Lets face it an eye exam is about $90 a year for me and a years worth a contacts lets say are $100 at the most. so that would obviously be $190. But a dentist visit is at least $110 and you do that twice a year and that probably doesn't even include yearly x ray.... You have a better chance chipping a tooth or needing a root canal than having something major happen to your eyes. Dental definately!!

Mike B
Check your annual cost for each. If you were to pay full cost for both, which would be more expensive? Also factor in some costs for emergency care such as an eye infection or a chipped tooth. Then pick which would be more per year, insure that one, and create a separate savings account to handle the other.

Most of these benefits have maximums they will pay. See which one has the larger maximum, and select that one. Neither will be at "no cost to you" probably, because dental generally works on a scale ( so much for a cleaning, so much for a filling) and a maximum pay out (usually up to $1500 per year for dental). So it is a supplemental, not all inclusive insurance. The vision insurance will also have limitations that it will pay. It depends which you incur more of--dental costs or vision costs, per year.

Vision if you wanna see forever. Dental if you wanna be able to eat.
