Perhaps but I'm not overly concerned. I just did a web application for a 1 year CD at 5% (about 3/4 a point better than the best alternative) with them. They clearly are looking to beef up capital after some mortgage losses incurred. That said, they have a stronger than average capital position. So long as you stay within the FDIC guidelines ($100k or less, more if you know how to spread it around correctly) you should be fine. The "fear" is worse than the reality most of the time. My bet is that they will take some lumps but will make it through this, perhaps after merging with another bank. Peace. |

They are in trouble, but there is a lot of disagreement as to exactly how much trouble they are in. What I am hearing is that they have so much liabilities that if the whole bank were given to you for free, you would be worse off than you are now because they don't have the assets or income to compensate for their liabilities. I thought about buying their stock today at around $2.00. Some big bank could buy them up at $6.00 a share a year from now or it could go down to pennies in a bankruptcy. I just don't know what to do. |

There is an old saying ... everyone has an *** , and they all stink . What I mean is , don't listen to rumors , they are usually started by small minded people who crave attention . WAMU is the biggest S & L in the USA , and the rumor is bullcrap . |
