Try where you have your Life Insurance with. For example I work for MetLife, so I got a employee discount, also I had a life insurance policy so additional discount, then i took the safe driving class knocked off another 10% a year, also my credit was good. I saved almost 50%. My renters insurance is like $7 a month for MetLife Auto and Home. I know MetLife is based alot on your credit rating though. ALso think about raising your deductible and your premiums will go down.

From a local, independent agent. Check with 3-4 agents - you might want to check with a captive, also, like State Farm or Farmers.
There's no real short cut; to find the best deal, you really do have to shop around a bit.

“Good” can only be judged by what is good for you—your specific needs. Generally, though, it’s always “good” to talk to an insurance broker. A broker works with several companies and can find the best rates and coverage for you. To find a broker in your area, log on to a website like http://www.homeownerswiz.com (for renters insurance) or http://www.autoinsurancewiz.com/ (for auto insurance) and fill out a form requesting a free quote. Your information will be sent to a broker in your area who will contact you. Good luck!
