What's the best health insurance company for individuals without coverage at their work place?

There's no one best health insurance company, you'll have to find the one that's best for you. One company may be better if you're in your 20's while another may be better if you're in your 50's. Another company may be better if you have health conditions while still another will be better depending on your height and weight. Also, not all companies write in all states and the policy of any one company will be different across state lines. In addition, most companies have a variety of plans and some of those plans may not be suitable for you.

Visit a local agent that works with all the major companies. The agent can find the best policy for your situation and budget. There is no extra charge using an agent and you'll have someone local to call with any questions.

There is no one particular best company but typically you will always want to stick with a company that is large and well known (Blue Cross Blue Shield, Aetna, Humana, United Healthcare, Kaiser Permanente, Celtic, etc.)

Research the various companies and plans available in your area, view quotes from each, and then work closely with an independent health insurance agent that is familiar with the plans in your area.

Stick to this plan and if you are fairly healthy you should be able to find a very cheap individual health insurance plan. Here is some more info on individual health insurance plans:

I would say just shop around and get quotes. I would just shop around, get quotes from many companies and see what you find.

When researching health insurance you might want to try and bookmark this site for research information, news, articles, insurance quotes, companies, links and more. It should have the resources to help you research your question.

It’s hard to make a straightforward recommendation for you without more information. A lot depends on where you live. Each state has its own health insurance market, so rates and benefits can vary a lot from one place to another.

The good news is that if you’re younger and relatively healthy you’ll probably be able to find some good affordable options. You can work through a licensed agent in your area (just make sure you find an agent who represents multiple insurance companies so that you can choose from a broad selection). Or, you can visit an online health insurance agency like eHealthInsurance.com, which is where I work.

At our site, for example, you can get free quotes, compare plans side by side, and apply for coverage online. We also have customer reviews for a lot of the plans we sell, and you can talk with one of our licensed agents by phone for personal help. The number is 1-800-977-8860.

Good luck!
