Their house was damaged in the tornado they have no Building or contents insurance (they chose not to have it) and now they have the cheek to expect handouts I have to have insurance in case things like this happen maybe we should all save on the premiums and expect handouts if something happens

That was exactly my reaction. I sincerely hope they don't get any handouts. It was their decision not to take insurance - they took the risk they wouldn't need it. They gambled and lost. Tough. What next? Handouts for people who gamble on horses and lose? |

If they bought a house in Kensal Rise, then they've got enough money for insurance.
The story I heard was that they had a mix up when they moved in and never got round to sorting out the buildings insurance (which is a requirement). Contents insurance is a choice.
If they want handouts, fine, but the muppets won't get a penny from me. |

i'm with you on this.
i pay a blinking fortune for house/contents insurance and it really bugs me when people don't have it and then moan when they could do with some money, thats what insurance is for.
but i agree with the above post that i thought you needed basic building insurance to get a mortgage.
unless of course there so rich they don't have a mortgage and if thats the case they can whistle for a hand out!! |

The people with no buildings insurance were unlucky, they'd only just moved in and their policy hadn't been finalised because of previous problems with subsidence at that address. Therefore they weren't covered at the time of the tornado because of the insurer's beauracracy. |

My understanding of this situation is that the couple DID apply for buildings insurance, but there was some kind of problem with subsidence and thy had to resubmit the papers...during which time the wind huffed and puffed and blew their house down. Nor do I think they are looking for "handouts"; what the woman said is that if the insurance company wouldn't help them, then they'd have to use their savings. |

GEEZ PEOPLE HAVE A HEART!! these people have just lost there homes before christmas! you dont know their circumstances they may not of been able to afford insurance! it seems to me that too many people look out for number 1 these days and say to hell with everybody else! if they do any sort of collection round here for those people i will be donating and not saying stuff em its there own fault! do you really think people in britain expect to be hit by a tornado???! |
