My son had assurant.. the only reason he doesn't anymore.. he went to work for a large company and they provided his coverage.
He was very happy with them, coverage and customer svc. |

I'm a licensed agent for Assurant Health products and have been for more than three years.
The only problem I've ever had with them was really more a result of a misunderstanding than anything else. I talked over the fact that their short-term health insurance policy would NOT cover pre-existing conditions before we wrote the policy. They assured me, multiple times, that they had no pre-existing conditions.
Two months later, they came back into my office furious that Assurant had refused to pay for their prescription. After some digging, it turned out the prescription was for a maintenance drug that they'd been on for almost 12 years. (Somehow, this didn't appear to them to be a pre-existing condition!)
Luckily, I'd had them sign off on their "no pre-existing condition" statements and the understanding that none would be covered. They still weren't happy, of course. But some folks you really can't make happy.
Had they been up front with me, I could have made better suggestions for them. So, the moral of the story is: be up front, ask questions if you aren't sure!
The company has a strong financial rating from AM Best (A-.) However, any insurance company is only as good as its local networks (unless you're purchasing a plan that doesn't require networks, which is rare and expensive.) While Assurant will pay if you go out of network, you'll have higher expenses. So, be sure you know about local providers before you sign up. |
