You can pay a premium for any health care provider if you have the income. It will be cheaper if you can buy the insurance as part of a group. You can usually join the local Chamber of Commerce and get group rates from HMOs and other insurers for your area or, if that is not available, join the Small Business Service Bureau and get the same group rates. http://www.sbsb.com/
There are many "health insurance" sites on the web, but they are not really health insurance. They are discounters, who try to get service providers to offer the same rates they get from insurers, but you have to pay first and maybe get a rebate, or you have a large deductible. It does not usually cover much for hospitalization or specialists.
Your state may have a subsidy available for small businesses to pay part of the premium. You'll have to go to your state's web site and look for the health insurance information. |

Buy your own!! Remember that the share of cost for medical services will be higher, don't expect a low deductable, and co-pay. Most importantly you must be in good health to apply, don't wait untill something bad happens. Like it said in the other response...look into HSA plans. They are the best plans. |

It is my recommendation that you look at a Major Medical Plan that partners with a Health Savings Account. It is a great way to turn your medical, dental, vision, etc expenses into "tax-deductible". I work very close with my clients, especially my small business people, to help them find a plan that is comprehensive, but has lower premiums.
I try to meet with people to show them, ways to keep their healthcare dollars in their pocket. I firmly believe that people pay to much for their health insurance. Why not have an agent/advocate to help you out.

Check your chamber of commerce for small business coverage. Also, if you live in New York State, they have started some kind of coverage. Go to the state web site and hunt around. |
