If you ever needed to use your insurance (for example = your house burnt down) You would believe in it!
I started in the business during the 500year flood in NC. Anything can happen & it's good to be prepared by having insurance coverage |

Auto, home and health insurance companies all operate at less than 1% profit over time. Some years they'll have a larger profit and some years they are in the red, so they're not benefiting from your premium as much as you think they may be.
All policies have restrictions and exclusions. If you don't understand your policy of course you think they're ripping you off. |

people who think insurance is a scam are simply ignorant. they listen to the media or just plain dont know what the hell they are talking about. they are people who have had something "bad" happen to them (which is usually a result of them not reading their benefits, but of course they would never admit to that).
once you actually LEARN what insurance is about and pay attention to the facts, you will see it isnt a scam. |

Yes, well, you clearly have NO idea how insurance works.
People who think insurance is a scam, don't want to be EDUCATED about it's purpose, and how it works, so I won't bother to teach you.
Lots and LOTS of people have been paid by insurance companies for claims. When you try to "do it yourself" and "outsmart" the insurance companies, you get what you paid for, and you got rotten advice.
**OK, you're confusing "insurance" with "investment". Investment is where you get your money back. Insurance is where you pay a small amount, against the company *maybe* paying a much, much larger amount. Kinda like reverse gambling.
As to why insurance companies are so rich - they aren't. I don't buy their stock - they don't make anywhere near the money as Coca Cola, for example. Health insurance companies pay out in claims $.99 for every $1 they take in. Car insurance pays out about $1.07 for every $1 they take in. Or worse. The idea that insurance companies are raping the public is ABSURD - but popular, most often held by people who have no idea what they are talking about.**
***now go back, and calculate how many people must be paying $300 a month for a full year, for health insurance, AND NOT PUT IN CLAIMS, to generate enough money to pay poor James' medical bills. I'll help you with the math. 277. |

oh really? go ahead and have an accident with your car and no car insurance and see how much it takes to fix it vs. the cost of the insurance.
I had a hospital emergency room visit a few months ago - cost me $100 with insurance - I saw the statement of total charges - would have cost me over $5000 if I didn;t have health insurance that costs me about $70 per month at work |

Now what kind of answer did you think you would get here on the insurance site...do you think a bunch of insurance professionals are going to tell you yeah you're right?
you are really ignorant |

Here's a question for you, Bradley L.
If you were paying for a health insurance policy, and one day you were diagnosed with terminal cancer, and your medical bills were reaching $1,000,000 for surgery, chemotherapy, periodic PET/CT scans, and radiation treatments, and all you had to pay out of pocket were your monthly premiums, and a maximum annual copay of $3000, would you think you were being ripped off?
I didn't think so.
I am going through the above scenario at this moment; was prognosed with 6-10 months to live in August, 2006. I'm glad I had insurance to pay for all those treatments. I would have died otherwise.
Some people are just ignorant and don't know any better when they come up with questions and statements such as yours.
An insurance policy will do EXACTLY what it says it will do...No more...no less.
My recommendation for you is to get educated on the subject. |

Websters dictionary lists insurance as the business of insuring persons or property, a coverage by contract whereby one party undertakes to indemnify or guarantee another against loss by a specified contingency or peril, the sum for which something is insured also a means of guaranteeing protection or safety
Insurance more simply put is a "transfer of a risk".
If you are ever in a situation where you need to collect the benefits it would not seem like a scam. If you never use the benefit then I could see it would seem like you waisted your money.
You have to think of what it means to transfer risk, if you would have had a loss the insurance would have paid for that loss, they assumed your risk for you. On the other hand if you had no coverage and you had a loss it would be a complete loss. |

I've seen many policies pay the limits. Total fire losses on homeowners, serious auto accidents paying the full liability limits, etc. Believe me, these people sure were glad they had insurance & know insurance is not a scam.
Now if a policy pays out $500,000, it will take 1000 $500 policies to make up the payout, this is pure premium only, not counting the costs to do business, salaries, agent commissions, building costs (utilities, taxes, etc), equipment (computer, programming) costs, etc, etc.
When you buy the policy, you need to understand what you are buying, what the coverages are & what the exclusions are. Then, you know up front what is covered & what will not be covered.
If you are not fully truthful with the agent or company when you buy the policy or go for the "cheapest" policy, then you may get yourself into trouble.
The only "catch" would be an exclusion in the policy that you should have read when you received it, that you didn't follow the policy provisions, or you didn't disclose information on the application.
If you think insurance companies are so rich, talk to your financial advisor to see about buying stock in one & see what he or she says... |
