I lost my insurance a month ago because I had no money at all... moving into a new place, full time student paying for the next semester, and only a part time job, not to mention car problems. Well, I got into a wreck where I hydroplaned and hit the person in front of me. His car is not bad.. some superficial damage to the bumper... and my hood will need to be replaced and there were no injuries. When the cop came up, I gave him my insurance card (which is still in date, but not paid last month). What should I expect to happen?

Don't try and answer if you have no idea what you are talking about. 1) I wont lose my car 2)the other car has <200$ in damages so I doubt this will come to a lawsuit 3)After insurance information is written down and a case is filled, the police are out of the matter unless someone was seriously injured or had I been intoxicated or something. No one will throw a college student behind bars for not being able to afford insurance last month and driving in the rain. Plus I have a clean record and am really involved in the community. Ill be surprised if I dont know the judge... I knew the officer.
