Right...First of, I have had my labtop insured by this insurance company, Endsleigh Insurance Services. My labtop was damaged on the day I had an insurance with them and so I called them to ask for a claim. But for some reason, I wasn't able to tell them the correct date the accident happens (which I've accidentally dropped it). Therefore they were not able to insured me because they thought I was 'lying'.
Anyway, I've had my labtop repaired; but then this insurance company called me today to asked about the claim which I made. They asked me questions like where did I get it repaired and ask me to save the receipt. I am quite scared actually, will they be able to sue me or get cops to arrest me or something? |

no they probably wanted you to save it for proof of damage...if there was damage then there would be a claim...the receipt would be most likely for reimbursment.....i am an ins agent and we use receipts for documentation that anything has been paid our of your pocket for a covered loss...we then can turn around and reimburse you....now if you are lying that is called insurance fraud and you can be arrested |

Its hard to tell what they are thinking, or what they will do, since we were not there to hear the conversation. But there are a few things I can tell you that may help. Usually if you call in a claim, it is not taken care of right away. Someone takes the information, then they assign an adjuster that will call you back and talk to you and try to settle the claim with you. It is normal for them to ask a bunch of questions and ask you to keep receipts.
However, Insurance companies lose thousands of dollars each year due to insurance fraud. Because of this, they will usually do a pretty good job investigating claims that seem questionable and will definitely push to prosecute anyone that is trying to scam them. I'm not sure what you wrote, but it sounded like you were saying that you broke the laptop the same day you got your policy. That would definitely send up a red flag in the eyes of the insurance company.
That said, I would also say that your claim does not sound like a huge claim. since you got your laptop repaired already instead of waiting on them to send you a check, it will probably make them more likely to believe that your error on the date was really an error and not a lie.
If you are worried, I would suggest that you call the company and ask the person handling your claim how they plan to settle it.

If you're being honest about your claim, it all comes down to the time of the inception of the policy. The insurance company can get you to swear infront of a Commissioner of Oath and get you to sign the Proof of Loss, which can then be held against you in court as it is a legal document, if you were lying. |

No you want get arrested. They work for you. you was paying them to insure your product. They just wanted to know if they was going to have to pay out money or not. They have to love you for a client they want have to pay out no money if you pay for insurance and then fix your own stuff too. |

It's pretty unusual to have a claim the EXACT day that coverage goes into effect. It's pretty common to have someone drop a computer (or have a car accident), and then rush out to try to buy coverage for something that already happened.
So, if they think you were trying to commit insurance fraud (ie, buying coverage AFTER the accident, to get pre-existing damage covered) worst case scenario, they'll prosecute you for insurance fraud.
But I hardly think it's worth it over a labtop. |
