What car insurance company would be best for my situation?
No accident for 5 years, no tickets for 3 years, excellent credit.

So, what quality auto insurance companies only look back 5 years for accidents, 3 for tickets and weigh in good credit?
Additional Details
My rate w/ State Farm just increased $15 and that's BS.

I am not a fan of State Farm at all, but they ARE the biggest insurance company for a reason: their rates are competitive and their coverage and claims service are exemplary. The fact that your rate went up $15 is not surprising; everything has been going up in cost lately: groceries, clothing, utilities, labor costs, everything but gasoline. The main thing you should be concerned with is finding a reliable insurance company that has a competitive rate and if you are so inclined, an agent to assist you with managing your insurance needs. The companies that would top my list would be Progressive, Travelers, AAA, State Farm, and Allstate. I'm not sure where you are located, but for strictly personal reasons, I would avoid American Family Insurance and Farmers Insurance, if they are in your area. I have never personally been insured with State Farm or Allstate, but due to their market share, they are worth looking at for comparison.

State Farm and Allstate are represented by their own agents. You would contact an independent agent or broker to get quotes from the other companies. Please give your State Farm agent a call and discuss your concerns before you switch to another company. $15 really is a very small amount of money to switch insurance companies over. Your agent may not have the cheapest insurance out there, but he may have your best interests in mind. Check with him before making any major moves.

Good luck and continue your safe driving habits!

I work in a State Farm office. I know that premiums can increase for a number of reasons.

It could be as you get older, driving more than 54 years your rate might have increased. I doubt that is your situation.

Once a year the insurance companies rate the cars to see if they have higher or lower claims or safer or not safer than expected, so your rate could increase if claims were more than expected or repair costs turned out to be higher on your car or your car is stolen more often. Bottom line is the increase could be due to the car you are driving.

Another thing is you may have lost a discount you used to get like multi-car or multi-line discount.

All, this depends on your state. I would call your agent and asked them why the premium went up. They don't just raise rates because they fell like it. Rates have to be approved by the Dept. of Insurance in your state.

And, Mitch had a great answer. State Farm is great at paying their claims. And, hopefully you have a good agent that is there when you call and when you need them.

Ask about discounts, multi-car, multi-line, good driver, Loyalty and ask if there are any other discounts offered in your state and how to get them. You can save a lot if you just ask.

You can find free car insurance rates at an authority website that helps consumers find the cheapest auto insurance rates for their vehicle. Finding affordable quality coverage for your automobile shouldn't be hard as long as you compare liability and fully coverage policies.

There's no short cut to shopping around. If you're 21, then your rates are going to be higher than if you're 30. If you had a ticket four years ago, depending on which state you are in, it may or may not affect your rates.

How far back they look, is going to depend on which STATE you are in, not which company. Unless you're in CA or MA, credit IS going to count.

Your best bet is to call a few independent agents in your area, and let them get you quotes with 10 or so different companies.

Not knowing ALL of your details, a $15 increase (in the grand scheme of things) does NOT seem like a large increase. You don't mention WHERE you live, nor have there been any recent changes by either YOU or tthe State. Texas had a change in their minimum limits of liability requirement that increased EVERYONE's insurance in April, 2008.

There is no ONE insurance company that is right for everyone - everyone is rated individually - and all companies have different "likes and dis-likes", different credit tiers, different business models, and many other factors that can vary your rate - and a QUOTE is ONLY a quote until the policy is issued.

Typically, insurance rates will vary from State to State and can even vary by ZIPCODE! It also will depend on the type of car/truck, coverages, limits of liability, and driving record. Some companies run credit scores and MOST run a motor vehicle report and CLUE (Comprehensive Loss Underwriting Exchange) report to see about undisclosed accident involvement.

The best thing to do is call a LOCAL independent agent or broker. Don't go across town, or to some other city - look for someone CLOSE. Just look in the phone book for the PIA or Big I (Trusted Choice) logos and you will find a professional licensed agent that will be able to help you solve your insurance problems, and give you rate comparisons of several different companies.

An independent insurance agent will normally have a dozen different companies and if he cannot help you, he should be networked with other local agents that can.

In my agency, we have companies that do NOT run a credit score and welcome drivers with "less than perfect" driving records and specialize in youthful operators!

Most of the replies on this site say "go to this on-line carrier or that on-line carrier or that 1-800 number" but I'm sure that when you do, you will find some impersonal computer user with a script to work from and you won't be able to talk with the same person every time you have a problem!

Good luck, drive RESPONSIBLY and I hope this helps!
