What comany would you reccomend for home owners insurance?

Well, that all depends on where in the world you live!! In general, in the US, a local, regional carrier is going to offer better rates and coverages in low risk areas (such as the midwest). A national carrier is going to offer better rates and coverages in high risk areas (such as hurricane alley).

I use State Farm insurance - wonderful service and rates. I would recommend shopping around through - rates can vary significantly. Don't just get the cheapest though - make sure they are honest and reputable!

Farm Bureau Insurance _my sister jokes about working for the FBI, but seriously, they have never declared bankruptsy. They paid off Florida hurricanes and Oklahoma tornadoes, even though they lost their shirts. It's organized as a co op, so it stays local.

Jake
Be wary of State Farm policies. After the hurricanes last year, they have altered every one's home owner's policy to reflect a 1% deductible. This means that instead of the $1000 or $500 deductible that you'd be expecting on a $200,000 policy you would have a $2000 deductible, and pay the same as you did before with your previous deductible. Definitely shop around as home owners rates are based upon location, personal credit, claims history and so on. Also, you will usually get a discount for having your Auto & Home owner's policies together. I've heard Allstate, Farmers, and American Family have very good rates.

it really depends on what you need
