ms | What do I do when a licensed and insured contractor has done faulty repair work in CT? |
|

Complain to the licensing authority in that state. In CT contact Department of Consumer Protection to start with.http://www.ct.gov/dcp/site/default.asp Good luck! |

You can report him to the local building code department, request that he correct the work as per your original agreement and make sure it's up to code, and/or you can bring him to court.
Unfortunately, general liability policies do NOT insure the contractors' for faulty work, poor workmanship, or failure to complete the job. |

If you contact the Department of Consumer Protection and file a complaint against the contractor, they will be able to help you.
If he is insured, then you may have a claim against his contractor's liability policy. Additionally, Connecticut has a program that can reimburse individuals who were "taken" or "wronged" by a licensed contractor. Consumer Protection can provide you with more information about that. |

Start by reporting them to the Better Business Bureau and then contact the local or state authorities and ask them who you should now contact. Before you hire someone the next time ask them for references that you are going to contact to be sure that this guy is who he says he is and that his work is acceptable. If you have to go and look at some of the recent jobs that he has done recently and speak to those who may have been there when the work was done. People like to talk and sometimes when they do you can pick up just how someone worked while they paid. |

You sue him and hope he has a good insurance carrier. Aside from asking him to come back and repair the faulty work that is your only recourse. |

Depends how long it has been too. If it's over a year, it's probably too late.
Otherwise you can threaten him with a law suit so he does the work correctly. If nothing drag him to court and sue for damages and court fees. His insurance carrier will want to stop that from happening, and may decide to settle or get a different contractor to do what you need instead of wasting time and money on lawyers. |
