Utopia | What do you do if you are denied Health care insurance? |
I signed up for Blue Cross Blue Shield in Florida. My family was accpeted but I was denied because they said I have been to the Dr with complaints of a stiff neck. So I have been denied Health care coverage that I would pay 1400.00 a month for because I had childhood astama and a stiff neck. I havent had asthma since I was 9 and I am 34 yrs old. Does this make any sense? I am completely healthy and I am denied, this is so messed up. Any suggestions |

Go to a local agent, let them find you other coverage with a different carrier. Let them exclude all coverage for the asthma.
But that stiff neck has to be resolved - that can be a symptom of some quite serious stuff.
**Ameriplan is NOT insurance. Your monthly payment buys you a LIST, and most providers won't give you the discount. They don't PAY anything, and they don't COVER anything, and they aren't REGULATED.** |

There are several on-line services that can assist you in getting a quote. Two of the more reliable are :
http://www.kqzyfj.com/click-2952034-10517499
http://www.anrdoezrs.net/click-2952034-10359791
Because they specialize and partner with numerous health insurance providers, you are more likely to get better coverage at a better rate through them verses calling around to individual agents.
I hope this helps! |

Welcome to my world and that of I would guess a couple million others. We are the UNinsurable, certainly if you have diabetes (can't even get life insurance--irrelevant if it's under good control, etc.), and NO ONE ever addresses our needs.
You can see if FL has a "high-risk" insurance pool--you have that in like 33 states and all should have it--the feds even kick in money towards it but the states aren't serious about providing care for all which is another reason the feds keep doing their unconstitutional fed thing (Amendments IX and X violated).
You might also get discounted care at:
http://ask.hrsa.gov/pc/
If you find an employer who provides group health or can join through an association you might belong to, that could work. If so and you lose the insurance, use COBRA if applicable (may not be with association) or HIPAA after at least 18 months of group coverage. You will pay dearly, but it's hard to not have something.
DO get your stiff neck checked out--the agent was 100% correct--that could be quite serious.
Maybe you'd be interested in reading a basic proposal, part of a huge chapter on how to fix the ACTUAL problems with health care in the US here:
QUALITY, ACCESSIBLE, AFFORDABLE health care for all.
That means preventative care (physical with follow up). Real medication (no Medicare "donut holes" the really ill are ripped off again.) No bogus ridiculously low "caps" on needed medical procedures. No abuse of the ER. No paying for the silly with the sniffles to go to the doc for free. No more bankruptcies over medical bills. I want THIS plan that ends abuse of the taxpayer, takes the burden off employers, provides price transparency, and ends the rip-off of the US taxpayer at the hands of greedy insurance CEOs (which has been repeatedly documented).
http://www.booklocker.com/books/3068.html
Read the PDF, not the blurb, for the bulk of the plan. Book is searchable on Amazon.com
Cassandra Nathan's Save America, Save the World
Nathan is the ONLY author I've seen who acknowledges those of us who can't get insurance. She also addresses the WHOLE system--from the crying need for MORE doctors (especially US-educated), making their loans more reasonable, reducing prescription med prices without crippling the industry because the US is THE number one innovator of all new meds, etc. The woman did her research but because there is NO place for graft in her plan--as close to fool proof as a plan can get--no one seems interested. As you're learning, there are a lot of powerful interests making blood money in the health care field and it's NOT doctors.
Good luck and may the neck issue be nothing serious. |

The first thing you should do is talk to a licensed health insurance agent. An agent who understands your situation and the health insurance market in your state might be able to advise you about possibly appealing the decision or applying to another insurance company they think might choose to offer you some kind of coverage. You can find licensed agents in your phone book, or else call one of the licensed agents that work for my company, eHealthInsurance.com (800-977-8860). You may not be out of options.
To be frank, however, once you’re denied for coverage by one insurance company it is sometimes difficult to get accepted with another. In that case, depending on your situation, you may be able to qualify for some kind of state-sponsored insurance program. There’s a non-profit organization called The Foundation for Health Coverage Education (www.coverageforall.org) that can help you figure out if these options might work for you. They publish free charts for each state that map out government-sponsored options for people who can’t obtain private health insurance. The chart for Florida can be found here: http://www.coverageforall.org/pdf/matrix/FL_Matrix.pdf.
One thing to keep in mind: When you get health insurance through an employer you cannot be turned down based on your medical history. Depending on your personal situation this may not be helpful, but if none these other options work for you, then consider looking for a new job that provides health insurance benefits (or encourage your spouse to look for one). You might also see if there are other organizations or unions you can join that offer health coverage to their members.
Good luck!

This is why its important that we get Barack Obama in the white house. Obama will fight for the middle class as President. He will pass universal health care by the end of his first term, saving the typical family up to $2500 a year. Under Obama, you will never be denied Health care regardless of your past condition. |
