What do you do if you think someone committed insurance fraud?
I think my neighbors daughter and and her husband committed insurance fraud with a truck they say got stolen. The daughter says it was the husband, but I suspect both took part because they have money problems. My neighbor, of course, thinks it was just the husband, even though her daughter has been nothing but trouble. I know their last name but not their insurance company. It just makes me mad because they just got 16000.00 bucks. Oh, and the husbands mother also knew.

If you know who their insurance company is contact them otherwise call the police and let them get the ball rolling.

Insurance fraud is a crime - just like robbery. If your neighbor's daughter has admitted to you that her husband has committed a crime (as you imply she has) you should convey this to the police.

If your neighbor's daughter had said that her husband had committed an armed robbery, an assault, a B & E, would you not feel it was your duty to turn him in? Insurance fraud such as this is what helps keep everyone's insurance rates high. In the long run, you & everyone else will help pay the $16,000 they stole.

John A
You have absolutely no proof or evidence that any fraud was committed. I am sure that the insurance agency investigated the claim and decided to pay. Even if you call the insurance company, what will you tell them? That you have a hunch?

Accusing someone of committing a crime without any evidence is slander, and you could be held liable for any damages your neighbors suffer because of your accusations.

Nabil
Insurance companies do not relay on suspect , they relay on fact and mainly police reports or investigator.

zippythejessi
Contact your state insurance board. I think you can do anonymously.

StarrLite
If you want to butt your nose in other's business than you can call their insurer or file a complaint with the Dept. of Insurance in your state. Insurance fraud is the leading cause of our high premiums. I think you have guts though to make a claim.

People usually think that the insurer owes them money when claim time comes, but what they don't know is that the insurer has been paying out on other claims and trying to invest their premium. I know we don't get much out of it, but you will want it when your time comes.

Do what you have to do.

bor_rabnud
Turn them in. You don't have to be open about it to them, just the insurance company.

Try to find out who the insurance company is. If you can't you can see if your state has an insurance crime bureau, or notify the NICB, National Insurance Crime Bureau and see if you can make an anonymous tip. Whoever insures them you'll need some proof, and not just a hunch.

L.
report them to the cops & let them sort it all out. at worst, it will be an inconvenience to them. at best, the cops will catch a pair of crooks.

fairly smart
report them, that is why your rates are so high & mine are so high.

In my nephews ex wifes family, there is one of the brothers or uncles who is constantly suing people so he doesn't have to work. He is on disability for his arm, that he uses all the time with no problem. I am looking for his ins company to report him too.

mamatohaley+1
Since you do not know their insurance company I would contact the insurance comissioner for your state. They will point you in the right direction.

missourim43
Contact the insurance company, but better have some facts to back up your claim of fraud.
