I pay $64 per month for a 2003 Jeep Liberty in Denver, CO. I work in the insurance industry. If I was younger I could be paying $250 per month for the same vehicle. If I was 55 then I would be paying probably $30 per month.

Insurance has less to do with where you live & more to do with many other factors. Finding the best company in your area that will take all of your factors into consideration & give you the best rate is the key to saving money.

A number of factors can affect the cost of your automobile insurance. Age, make and model of car, driving record, purpose the car serves, where you keep and drive your car, and your credit rating all affect insurance rates.

Ways to lower your rates:
There are a number of things you can do to lower your rates. Here are some tips:
1) It pays to shop around. You can often find policies that vary hundreds of dollars for the same coverage on the same car.
2) Choose an automobile that is inexpensive to insure.
3) Ask your insurer if they offer any discount plans. Most insurance companies have both vehicle and operator discounts.
4) Raising your deductible can lower your premiums. Make sure you can afford a higher deductible.
5) Drive defensively.
6) Improve your credit history.

I pay $1,800 every 6 months~ I'm a victim of insurance fraud... Someone falsely claimed they were injured in a little parking lot fender bender and they collected huge money for nothing- on my behalf. I'm more than p.i.s.sed (North Carolina)

I don't think it's too bad......We do get a small discount for also having homeowners insurance with them and being with them for 10+ years.

It is reasonable. Here are some things that may help lower your rates:
For students - b average or better for a semester
For adults - multi car, multi policy, good credit, no accidents, no violations.
If you live in a large city, there may be areas of town that are cheaper than others. Call your agent.

I would go on line or call 5 or so insurance companies and see how the rates compare. If you do this, have your current policy in front of you so you can get a quote for what you currently carry. Remember, cheapest is not always best.

If you want to know what the average person pays per state, this is a very inefficient way of doing this.

You should go to the website of the Insurance Information Institute and click on Auto Insurance.

It should have a state ranking of each state's average premium and then you can compare state by state rankings.

I pay $100 a month for full coverage in Texas. I am young and only have 1 car on the policy or it would be cheaper. (I have a 2007 Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder). I am happy with my rate.....which actually went down when I bought this car, it was $165 a month!

i am currently paying $200 every 3 months. i have a car payment so the bank owns it still. that rate includes everything plus roadside assistance and rental coverage. i think its pretty darn good for my area: philadelphia suburb.

$1100 (approx.) per year for a Drivers Policy. (I'm from Canada and have no car)

The only reason it's so high, is because I have an accident, a couple speeding tickets, 2 suspensions, and a fine for no insurance on my driving record. When I got caught with no insurance (I did have a car, but ended up flipping it in a ditch and writing it off) they took my license away (and gave me a $1200 fine) and said I had to get this "Drivers Policy" to show "proof of financial responsibility" and get my license back.

I consider it reasonable for my actions. (It will end up being higher than that when I get a car and convert it to an Auto Policy...I think the $1100 is somewhere between 30-50% of what my actual insurance would be)

When I had my car though (before tickets and fines), I was paying $1235 a year for full coverage on a 2000 Cavalier, and it was one of the best rates around. (I did still have the accident on my record though)

$2,000. It's reasonable considering my driving record and what we're insuring. I'm in Texas.

Actually, it's going to vary SO WILDLY, this survey is pretty irrelevant. Ask me next year, and it would be $4,000. And that's still fair, but there are SO many factors, you don't even know WHY it's fair that it will go up so much!!

You can't compare minimum coverage with $1,000,000 policy limits, you can't compare a Corvette with a Chevette, you can't compare rural vs. urban, you can't compare 17 years old, vs. 40 years old. AND, don't forget, the companies all use credit scoring, besides, to factor in.
