In response to the second posted reply- they are not exploited by big companies - I think in general they earn 3 times what other people in India earn- also some of the centres look like Butlins- plasma TV's in the coffee rooms- pool tables, ping pong, gyms etc.
I hate having to speak to call centres & i stopped feeling sorry for them when i found out the above info.
Can't speak for ALL call centres- obviously.
As a broker i will often report claims to call centres on behalf of clients because I know how frustrating they can be. They are only there to gather information which is relayed back to the UK so all you really need to do is have the patience to spend twice as long givin them the information and spelling it all out in phonetic alphabet to make sure that the information they send to the UK is correct.
Can't speak for ALL call centres- obviously. |

Apart from the obvious being that I cant understand them and if you ask a question they are not trained for they just repeat the answers in English that they know. Also they are doing our country out of valuable jobs |

Please God bring the call centers home. You can't understand them. This is no offense to them but in a situation that is confusing from the start adding an accent in only makes it worse. |

I don't blame the people that are doing the job they are trying to make a living just like any of us. I blame the company's who are employing them .
Why would I want to speak to someone who as very little understanding of the language I speak . Especially when it's to do with personal issues such as insurance finances etc .
Many a company as lost my business due to the foreign call adviser not understanding a word i say . fails me how they are meant to help me when we have a language barrier. |

This particular subject drives me mad.... I immediately become defensive and agitated as soon as i realise I'm talking to someone in a different country and because I have a strong geordie accent then I'm totally knackered - constantly being asked to repeat things several times. I've actually just hung up before because i couldn't be understood and have become so upset. |

They may not be able to understand you but i really cant understand them they are a waste of time you have a problem you go through all the things that they have in a text book in front of them and they still cannot solve the problem then you are redirected back to england to get problem solved (No wonder why my phone bill is High) |

Yes but i understand the logic. Basically Indian call centres are misused. It costs a company £21ph to have someone sat in a call centre in the UK and £4-5ph to have them sat in India. What an effective organisation does, is move a lot of the data processing and back office functions out to India and have agents that can deal with high frequency and low complexity calls and retain centrs in the UK (usually outsourced as well) to deal with calls of low frequency, but high complexity and high investigation. |

How annoying? I tell them i'm not home,i don't live here,i don't exist, they still call back! i've started telling them i passed away now.
Having said that, i called the mcafee customer services(in india i think) and they we're excellent. |

Generally, the experience of off-shore call centres is not good. They are often difficult to understand, they don't comprehend our culture or way of life, and the customer often goes away feeling almost like an annoyance to the call-centre operative.
Bring back call centres to the UK! |

i am all for generating jobs in other countries, but when you phone a call centre to discuss your bank accountl, for example, it is highly annoying when they miss out numbers on your account details and they gring up other peoples accounts or if you want to transfer money from one account to another it goes through wrong and you end up having too much money taken out!!!!!! i talk from experience!!! it has been done.
apart from that you cant understand them!!! they are paid very poorly as well. there are high and low points to them !! i am in the middle on this one really. i agree but not agree. |

I understand that they need jobs. But damn it so do we. We've got people starving and companies are giving jobs to other countries.
I personally have stopped doing business with each company that participates, and let them know exactly why. I've also reported a bunch of them to the FTC due to them not complying with the national do not call list.
So yeah...not a big fan. ☺ |

Rang BT call centre, all I got was
'Hello, hello, hello, I cannot hear you,' and rang off.....
Rang them again later and although the operator was very helpful it did take a minute or two to understand what he was saying, the line was awful and kept breaking up. eventually he did fix the problem, but lots of frustration....But who do you ring to complain? India |

I have been linked into several call centres that are clearly not in this country and have found all but one a frustration,so much so that I invariably put the phone down and write.
I think it is good for the call centres to stay in the country of the customer.
It `s all down to profits though... |
