Depends on your skill sets, what your degree is in, etc.

It's not unreasonable to be making $25,000 to $30,000. Obviously, it isn't based so much on age, as skills and experience. If you want to make a TON more, the big bucks are in sales - but they're straight commisison bucks, so if you don't perform, you don't get anything.

Keep in mind - the median HOUSEHOLD INCOME is about $42,000 in the US.

It depends on your cost of living. Being that you are living in NYC you enjoy one of the highest costs of living in the country.
It's no wonder you feel you need to make more money.

My bf has had his job at social services for a bit over 4 yrs now and he is 25 (26 in feb.) right now (before taxes) he is making $16,000.00 That's not a lot for where we live, I live 8 hours north of NYC. He will get a raise when he hits his 5 yr. mark in October, I believe that will make him at $24,000.

Now if you want to compare to what I make (I'm 22), it's not much. I make about $200.00 a week, $800.00 a month and sometimes less if I can't work (medical stuff or sick etc.). In the summer I make a bit better money, $1000.00 a month from June-early September. I plan on opening my own business by the end of this year and making at least $1400.00 or more a month.

ChicagoMan
high 40's low 50's probably a little above average, but who wants to be average anyways.

In NYC, you should be making at least $30,000 and that is really roughing it.

I am 22 and making 32000. I was offered 36000 at another place but the benefits stunk so I stayed where I am now.

I think about 30K

Sue
I live in Boston (very high cost of living as well) and I would say average for a 20 something with a 4 year degree would be anywhere from 35-55k, depending on what field you are in.

Salaries vary depending on many factors. To find more accurate salary data you can try salary.com or PayScale.com. You will find that jobs like these are negotiable when it comes to salary.More information, tips and help at http://moreaboutsalary.blogspot.com/

at least 35,000

In NYC, I'd say the average salary for someone in their early 20s right out of undergrad is probably 50-60K. By the time you hit your late 20s and become a manager, you should be making at least 80-100K. Keep in mind, salaries are generally higher in NYC because of cost of living. Of course, if you work on Wall Street, you would be making $150K at 22, and by the time you're in your late 20s and make VP or MD, you'd be making millions.
