What does it mean when a company says you have to be able to be bonded?
I am looking for a job, and one place that I have looked into says you have to be able to be bonded. Is this some sort of criminal record thing? I have a misdimeanor(sp) marijuana charge from about 8 years ago. Will this make a difference in getting a job? When they ask if I have any charges I say no.
It means they do a detailed background check, with your consent so that you are bond able by their insurance carrier that money will not come up missing, you won't steal their product when no one is around, and overall you are trust able because your past shows no sign of reasons not to trust you.

It means you must be able to be insured against theft (a surety company issues a "bond" which is the insurance and if you steal, they reimburse the company). Different bonding companies will have different limits to who they will bond, but they will do a background check on you and it is probable your misdemeanor may show up. If you don't come clean and it does show up, you will not get hired (lying on the application is usually an immediate disqualification).
Some surety companies may bond you with a misdemeanor, others may not. It will depend on which surety company the firm you are applying to uses.

Yes, it's a criminal record thing. If you're a convicted felon, you aren't bondable.
People who aren't bondable, know it. If you don't know, you're probably bondable.
And that marijuana charge won't keep you from getting bonded.

it means you are there property.
if they say jump you will jump

It means no arrest record or criminal background or jail. No druggies allowed. Look for another job.
