blue78669 | What does "term" life insurane mean? |
|
|

joe b
 |
It is a life insurance policy that covers a specific "term" or period of time, often 5, 10, 15 or 20 years during which time the rate does not increase. Premiums generally increase at the end of each term period. Example: a 5-year Renewable Term Policy renews at the end of 5 years and the premiums would increase. The policy can usually be continuously renewed (kept active) in this way to a certain age, when coverage ends, often at age 70, 80 or 100, depending on how the policy is written. On the other hand...
Permanent or "Whole Life" Insurance is policy that is guaranteed to stay in force for your lifetime. The premium rate is also fixed (never increases) for life. Premiums for whole life are generally much higher than term life at the outset. But those periodic term rate increases catch up as you grow older. Eventually, if you live to be 60 or so, a term policy will end up costing more per month than whole life. Term is best for young and growing families where maximum protection is needed for the least cost. Along with it, you should have a small amount of whole life you can keep for your old age and final expenses. |

Term life insurance means you pay your monthly premiums until a certain age. Usually 70, and if you die in that time you are insuring that your family will have money to pay for you funeral costs and standard of living they are accustom to. If you reach the particular age without dying, you get ZERO. |

It means you do not know the expiration date of your birth certificate. |

Another word to describe "term" insurance is "temporary" insurance. I sell life insurance and I would recommend Term under 2 circumstances: 1) if you know when you are going to die, because if you live past your policy's term, it pays your family nothing, or 2) if you are young and just starting out in your career, once you get married, purchase a home and have children, you should consider permanent insurance. |

The above answers are correct. Term life insurance is typically less expensive then its alternative, but when the term is up there is no value left over.
The alternative is to purchase a cash value policy. The premiums are higher, but the policy builds and actual cash value which a person (or company) can borrow against. Some use this as an investment which also carried the death benefit. |

it has a limit on it like 10 years |

FYI 97% of the term insurance policies never pay a claim. The insured outlives the policy. The question is, does that insured person (or his/her family) still have a 'need' for life insurance? |
