ok so i got hurt at work and now they are having people call me about workers compensation. im still fairly young and havnt had THAT much job experience so i dont know what this is exactly. does workers comp just pay for your medical bills and do u still have to work? or do u get to stay at home and go to physical therapy and the doctors (they told me i have to go to both) and still get paid? im in California if that helps. thanks |

Workers comp pays medical bills and lost wages. You have to work if your doctor says you are able to work. You can't just stay home and take an extended vacation. |

Just as clarification, the work comp insurance only covers medical bills for the work related injury. If you are off work for any extended length of time, your employer is not required to carry your health insurance and COBRA coverage premiums will have to be paid by you for any other health issues. |

Worker's Compensation is an insurance policy purchased by your employer to specifically cover employees for work related injuries. In your case, it is probably a claims adjuster or an HR person that is contacting you regarding the Work Comp. Work Comp is designed to pay for your medical bills and lost wages. The only way to collect any kind of lost wages from this policy is if you are unable to work (must be verified by your doctor). If this is the case then yes, you would be able to stay home. If your doctor says you can work, then you can still stay home, but don't expect to get paid for it.

Who is having people call you and asking about Workman's comp?
Yes you still have to work unless the doctor says you are unable to do your job. If he tells you that you can't do your job then you can go on disability for that period. You should get paid one way or the other. If you go on disability you will only get a portion of what you get if you are working. If it is a serious situation you should probably get an attorney. if this will be a lingering injury that will affect you long term an attorney would be the way to go. Good luck. |
