What experience would you need to have to work at a insurance company?

For an entry level position, you wouldn't need any experience, just your high school qualifications and maybe a college/university degree. They would train you.
For more senior positions, you would need experience and maybe specialist insurance qualifications.

Dear Screwed Up,

I would think you would need some knowledge of Insurance and how it works along with office equipment, computer skills and customer service.

Depending on what you're doing, there could any number of skill sets that would be useful. If you are wanting to sell insurance, sales experience would obviously be quite useful. If you are wanting to be an adjuster, you should have some pretty good math skills as well as good people skills. If you want to be an underwriter, attention to detail and being able to grasp abstract concepts are both great qualities to have.

If you are looking for any of a variety of clerical duties, they are fairly standard whatever industry you are looking at.

Right out of high school I got a job at an insurance company in their Imaging Department, it was entry level so it didn't require experience - just basic computer skills, decent typing speed, etc. After working for a year in the Imaging Dept, I promoted into Client Services where I started processing changes in policies (reinstatements, beneficiary and ownership changes, policy cancellations, etc.). A lot of companies offer opportunities for advancement once you get your foot in the door.

You don't need experience or knowledge to get your foot in the door. You just have to be willing to work hard for little money until you have learned enough to do more than do basic office work.

What kind of job do you want with an insurance company?

If you're looking for a clerical/administrative position, you'll need some experience in an office environment. If you're wanting to become an agent, you'll need an insurance license. What kind of experience you'll need will completely depend on what you want to do.

None. But if you go in there with no experience, you won't get much pay, either. But they'll do a good job of training you.

I am assuming you mean an agency, and being an agent? Many agencies require that you come alread licensed. The more experience you have, the more you get paid. Some agencies will hire you right out of highschool and pay for you to get licensed, but thats not very. The agency i work for requires about 5 year office / sales experience and you must be licensed in oreder to be considered.

It all depends on what you are wanting to do....

Hope this Helps.
