Bad Luck | What happens if I want to make an insurance claim but there was a gap in protection on my policy? |
I have got response that I should report an accident to my insurance company but at that time I wasn't insured. My policy was cancel but I just got it reinstated today. The accident was yesterday. Can I still make a claim? Very nervous, stressed and uneasy about this. Please help Thank you. What are my options.

What does "gap in protection" mean? Does it mean that your policy was cancelled? If so, you're NOT INSURED.
Sure you can make that claim, but it's going to void the reinstatement, as the reinstatement was conditional upon you not having any losses. So, no coverage for that claim. Sorry. |

You tell your agent the truth and you let the insurance company determine if your "reinstatement" was backdated or if it had lapsed.
Under NO circurmstances do you edit the time of the accident and claim that it happened a day later, just after the policy was reinstated.
The person you had the accident with will have already reported the accident to their insurance company,given the right dates and the insurance companies WILL compare files. |

On your reinstatement notice does it indicate what the effective day of the policy reinstatement is? If it was prior to the accident then go ahead and report it. If it was after the accident then there isn't a snow ball's chance in Bermuda that your insurer will cover the loss when they weren't on risk. |

You can talk to your agent to see if they will cover you, but I'm sure that the insurance company won't do it. You were uninsured at the time. I hope that the people that got in the wreck with you had uninsured motorist, if they do it will cover their claim and the insurance company will come after you for the money. You can't get out of this and you will have to pay. This is why you have to has auto insurance by law. |

There is no way for anyone to know how this will work for you. All you can do is talk to the insurance company. If your insurance was lapsed and not reinstated until the day after the accident, it is pretty unlikely the insurance company will take responsibility. Sorry. |
