What happens if you have a non smoking insurance policy and you start to smoke. Will the policy be honoured?

Generally the question will be have you used tobacco in the last 12 months (or at least that was the question on mine). If you haven't but then start, I can't see them legally being able to get out of honoring it.

However, that doesn't mean that if you have something serious that they'll try to wriggle out of paying for any treatment, by endlessly querying it until it's made moot by you either recovering or dying.

P&M
Yes, generally speaking it will be. If you were non-smoker at the time of the application, and you became a smoker some time after the insurance policy was issued, then you will still get the non-smoker rates. Your face amount will not be reduced when the death claim is made either. However, if you lied on the app, then that is a different story. But any kind of urine test will confirm to the insurance company that you were a smoker, thus subject to smoking rates.

P&M had the right answer. The policy will be paid because at the time you applied you were a non-smoker. Unless you lied. But that could not happen because the insurance companies tests you for tobacco.

The life insurance policy will be honoured.

If, when you purchased the life insurance policy, you were a non-smoker, and then you started smoking some time after the life insurance policy was issued, your life insurance death benefit would be paid out to your beneficiary.

Make sure you answer all questions honestly on the application. If you lied about smoking on your application, and the cause of your death was from smoking, there may be an issue with paying out your life insurance death benefit. Some carriers may dispute the claim, some carriers may pay the claim but keep the difference in premiums you would have paid as a smoker, rather than a non-smoker.

No the policy would not be honoured since your duty as the insured is to act in good faith and this basically means that you have to duty to avoid non disclosures .

You have a duty to volunteer additional facts and information even if not asked for, especially material fact facts that the insurer has a right to know. If you do not tell your insurer that you smoke and you take the policy then you will be in breach of your contract and legal action can be taken against you. I hope you understand what I have mentioned and the seriuosness of it.Bye.

I wouldn't expect it to be. Why should a non-smoking policy continue to cover someone who chooses to smoke...that negates the reason for it being non-smoking.
