Lee L | What home insurers quote when people have claims in the last three years? |
Our plumbing decided to freak out this year and we had a spate of three water damage claims. Our insurance company have now said they will not renew our policy and I can't find any companies who will even quote us. This is surely something a lot of people have happen, so who do they go to?
We are in the UK, so any details would be gratefully received.
Thanks guys |

The previous answers are correct. You might act your old agent if they are familiar w a high risk insurer in your market. You will be saddled w significantly higher premiums & deductible for at least 3 years.
If financially possible, an action which will help your cause, & apparently is needed...would be to have your home re-plumbed, at least partially.
Tho somewhat costly it will prevent future losses which you likely won't be able to secure coverage for, avoid headaches w same, & adds value to your home.
Often a bank will approve a loan for these types of home improvement. Good Luck ! |

it seems you won't get coverage for this anymore |

Have you now replaced the plumbing so this won't happen again from that source? If so you have now removed or at least significantly reduced the risk. I can't believe your insurers didn't get this done after the second loss.
Speak with a good broker. Online will dismiss it as will your direct markets as they have a script.
Your claims history is not your only problem as having a renewal refused is also now a material fact.
First thing is get your insurer to remove the renewal refused status as that will be an issue. Ask them to offer terms even if it excludes Escape of water Cover and the premium is ridiculous just to remove the renewal refused fact.
Secondly you need to explain to a broker the circumstances and confirmation the repairs have been done. If they haven't and you have just had patch up jobs you can see no insurer will want to take this on knowing they will have to pay a claim.
Then you need to insure with a well known insurer in the UK e.g. Zurich, ***, AXA, Norwich Union and you can expect an increased excess on Escape of Water Claims for at least a year.
I hope this helps and Good Luck. |

go to a broker who deal with lots of different insurance companies, they will try all of them but you may need to go to a specialist insurer if claim was for a high value. bit strange your company will not do it as it would be in there interests to keep the business. |

You'll probably have to go to the excess market, and they PROBABLY won't give you any water damage coverage - either that, or you'll be stuck with a HEFTY deductible, well over the highest amount paid in the past three years for your claim (like, $5,000).
If you were in the US, I'd say Foremost Insurance. But in the UK, you're just going to have to get on the phone and start calling every agent in the phone book, asking if they have a market for someone with high claims. Don't bother with agents that only represent one company - and don't expect this to cost anywhere NEAR what you're paying now, it's going to be maybe 5X what it was. Without water coverage. |
